Hatcher BAND parades, the Hallowe’en parade, the Santa Claus parade, and the Memorial Day parade. They gave two assembly programs this year and ap- peared willingly at many other chapel programs. Every week, certain members of the organization practice together in small groups known as en- sembles. These small groups also appear at various community functions. In the spring, the band does two things of special merit. One is the annual concert, the other the contest, which is usually held in some other school. In the latter, many students represent our school as perform- ers in solos or ensembles. 19

After you have studied in band for only a short time, you appreciate the value of group effort. As Mr. Hovey says, “This group can be only as good as you, the individual, make it.” Wayne Curven was voted by the band mem- bers to serve as manager. This duty he has car- ried out faithfully throughout the year. In the fall, some of the members were chosen to represent our school in the NYSSMA state and sectional bands. The band attended and par- ticipated in all the home football games, and two out-of-town games. They played for three 18
