We will not forget how she gave so freely of her time planning memorable assemblies, ably directing dramatic productions, and serving as advisor to the class of 1955. We won the first League game, and everyone was happy. Then we lost to Tranquillity. It was the first time that Riverdale had ever lost to Tranquillity in foot- ball: but, bad as they felt, none of the players quit. Then Sierra beat us by a large score--we were upset by Caruthers--Parlier met us head on, and we lost the last game of the season. Everyone likes to win games, and most everyone is a good winner. It's harder to realize that winning is not the whole purpose of playing. Many hours of hard work later, we decided that we would try to put together a book that is as modern, as informal, and as friendly as our school and community, itself. Working overtime, trying not to disrupt Mr. Phillips' classroom entirely, we gradually learned what it meant to lay out the dummy , to write copy , and to paste-up copyforms . ,e It's been a lot of fun, but hard work, too, and we couldn't have done it without the much appreciated help of many people: 'Our sponsor, Mr. Phillips, who stepped out of his departments, mathematics and science, to take over the headaches of coordinating the whole project. He became a very familiar sight at all school functions with his ever-ready camera. Mr. Myers, representative of the Myers Publishing Company, was our chief source of technical information. We called on him for help many times, and always found him cooperative. Mr. Frigulti, commercial photographer of Fresno, gave us high quality work, and willingly put in many extra hours getting just the right effect in processing the photo- graphs. Mr. Vaughn provided transportation to solicit advertising. We are proud of the fact that this very expensive project has paid its own way this year. You can help us express our gratitude to the business people who helped make this possi- ble by patronizing our advertisers, whose names you will find on the following pages.
