Right The astronauts are home at last. Far Right: This is the Saturn Five that lifted them off the pad in Florida. Lower Right: The astronauts entering an air- conditioned van to take them to their space craft. The Road to the Moon Is 240,000 The trip to the moon begins at Kennedy Space Cen- ter in Florida. With the 363 foot high vehicle posed and ready for the launch, astronauts Charles Conrad, Jr., Richard F. Gordon, and Alan L. Bean are also ready for their long trip that will take them into the far reaches of space in a huge step to conquer the unknown. The trip tothe moon was perfectly flawless. The landing was beautiful, and everyone on earth watched as astronauts Conrad and Bean walked on the moon. The trip home was perfect, and in no time at all, the three men were home. Some people ask, Why go all the way to the moon? When you get there, you find nothing. We in the United States spend millions of dollars to gain knowledge, but there is an underlying reason behind the space effort. That reason being to promote world peace. To further emphasize this statement, l would like to quote from the first man to step on the moon, A small step for a man, a giant leap for mankind. This short statement speaks for itself. iv . .ig 3 ii -5 23 is its rs., 3 . 5 ' , xml A -5-.f .11 feast -,ipxfi , ' stiff U, i A , ,, 52? .. 'gwfsfb i eg? ,fs-wk' .- V No! These are not men from Mars. They include Dale Woods, Ron Penrod, and Denny Phillips. They are responsiblefor putting up the flag every morning. Everyone has heard ofthe BOMB SCARE thatwe re- ceived, well, here we have two surplus detonators that could be used to set off an explosion. These be- long to the physics class and are hidden in the cup- board there. There is only one catch, as tar as can be found, the longest time that these can be set is for 60 seconds. That doesn't leave much time. Riverdale's News The tamed personality Timothy Boden has blessed the students at Riverdale with many fine speeches and demonstrations. Here he is giving o speech to the VICA Club in which he is President. 4 T Tm? -,S L, ii f 5 s Hi Here we have a picture of the eclipse that was viewed during this year. A sad note to this was in the area papers just recently, a girl stared at the eclipse and is permanently blind.
