II5 ADVERTISING ..... . . . I25 The theme of this year's annual is the poem, The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. We, the Annual Staff, feel that this poem appropri ately characterizes this year's senior class. Over the past four years they have had many decisions to make, many roads to choose from and now, after graduation, they find themselves at the crossroads of life. WHICH ROAD SHALL THEY CHOOSE? The Road Not Taken Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry l could not travel both And be one traveler, long l stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth, Then took the other, as lust as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear, Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, l kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads onto way, I doubted if l should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and l-- l took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. ----by Robert Frost X 2 ' f Q W A, new wapxx Q k K nw Q 4 k 'S ' ' jk sim Jigs N4 ggi K Q , + W. .V E K ydxxw . Right The astronauts are home at last. Far Right: This is the Saturn Five that lifted them off the pad in Florida. Lower Right: The astronauts entering an air- conditioned van to take them to their space craft. The Road to the Moon Is 240,000 The trip to the moon begins at Kennedy Space Cen- ter in Florida. With the 363 foot high vehicle posed and ready for the launch, astronauts Charles Conrad, Jr., Richard F. Gordon, and Alan L. Bean are also ready for their long trip that will take them into the far reaches of space in a huge step to conquer the unknown. The trip tothe moon was perfectly flawless. The landing was beautiful, and everyone on earth watched as astronauts Conrad and Bean walked on the moon. The trip home was perfect, and in no time at all, the three men were home. Some people ask, Why go all the way to the moon? When you get there, you find nothing. We in the United States spend millions of dollars to gain knowledge, but there is an underlying reason behind the space effort. That reason being to promote world peace. To further emphasize this statement, l would like to quote from the first man to step on the moon, A small step for a man, a giant leap for mankind. This short statement speaks for itself. iv . .ig 3 ii -5 23 is its rs., 3 . 5 ' , xml A -5-.f .11 feast -,ipxfi , ' stiff U, i A , ,, 52? .. 'gwfsfb i eg? They are responsiblefor putting up the flag every morning. Everyone has heard ofthe BOMB SCARE thatwe re- ceived, well, here we have two surplus detonators that could be used to set off an explosion. These be- long to the physics class and are hidden in the cup- board there. There is only one catch, as tar as can be found, the longest time that these can be set is for 60 seconds. That doesn't leave much time. Riverdale's News The tamed personality Timothy Boden has blessed the students at Riverdale with many fine speeches and demonstrations. Here he is giving o speech to the VICA Club in which he is President. 4 T Tm? -,S L, ii f 5 s Hi Here we have a picture of the eclipse that was viewed during this year. Then to the surprise of all the Falcon followers, the mighty Falcons were defeated by Carey and Pleasant successively. With their pride deeply hurt, but not their spirit, the fighting Falcons went back on the war path and defeated Wynford and Flgin. ln the closing games of the season, the Falcons were defeated by an inspired Mohawk team. Steve averaged 3.4 down field blocks per game and was credited with 4 touchdown blocks. Steve was Co-MVP and co-captain of the Riverdale Falcon football team. He was named to the All-Ohio First Team by UPI and received Hon- orable Mention by AP. Steve also received placement on the All-Northwest Ohio First Team and Honorable Mention on the High School All-American Team. PAT WEBER MAKES OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE HONORABLE MENTION IN THE STATE Pat Weber was Riverdale's highest scorer this year and was rated second in the North Central Conference with 72 points. Through the -season Pat set a new school record for yards averaged per pass reception. Pat was Co-MVP and named to the All-NCC First Team for the second consecutive year. Scott Renninger, graduated from Findlay High School in l962 and proceeded toHeidelberg Col- lege, where he graduated in l966. Mr. Renninger played guard all four years and thus earned All-Ohio Conference Honors in his senior year. Afterfour years as HEAD FAL- CON his teams have compiled a record of 26 wins and l3 losses. Riverdale has placed eight people in All-Ohio Honors and has been honored with two team members receiving Honorable Mention for All-American honors. All this has taken place during these past four years. Mr. Dave Pappada, Associate coach, is a graduate of Niles McKinley High School. While there he made All-Ohioian. From high school he progressed into college football at Find- lay College. Dave Pappada started every gamefor his soph- omore year on, thus lettering for three years. ln his senior year at Findlay, he gained the honor of Little All-American Honorable Mention. Mr. Pappada is responsible for coordin- ating the defensive attack and the offensive line. ln addition to these duties, he coaches the Junior Varsity. JV's Fight Hard A Word About the Junior Varsity This season seemed to be a rerun of the T968 season for the Junior Varsity. Only this season it was much better as the Junior Varsity, und,er the direction of Coach Pappada, went unbeaten, untied, and unscored upon. ln the process of demolishing their six opponents, the JV's scored a total of l9O points offensively and did not allow their opponents to score. With this devastating force as the Varsity of Tomorrow, it is easy to see that the Falcon fans can look forward to many Falcon victories in the fu- ture. Riverdale's 'Baby Falcons spread their wings wide and flew to victory in great form this season. Coached by John Hahn, the Freshman Team succeeded in winning all but one of their games. The Freshman Team defeated Cory Rawson and Corey with very impressive scores. Point wise, the Freshman Team was tied with Donnell Junior High, but defeated Donnell statistically. Then in their final game they were defeated by Vanlue's Junior Varsity Team. Even though they were defeated, they did succeed in holding Vanlue to only eight points. All-in-all. it was a very successful season. The members ofthe Freshman Team gained much experience and confi- dence in themselves and a winning spirit thatwill be ine valuable in the coming year. , t ie? rpfv s 'K - A as t J .. t iff HMG'- Freshman Record Riverdale 34 ....... . . . The Cross Country team did it by placing second out of nine teams inthe sectional. Then at the district they finished sixth out of the seventeen best teams in northwestern Ohio. But at the state meet they finished last out of the twenty-threeteamscompeting. Riverdale only grad- uates one senior this year and should have an even better season next year. Riverdale's Cross Country runners also won three of their four dual meets and one of their two triangular meets. ln maior meets they placed second in the Hardin County meet, third in the Zane-Kenton Invitational, and fourth in the North Central Conference race. You see, the first time that the picture was sup- posed to be taken, one of the board members was sick. This prevented us from obtaining one at that time. Another date was set up for the picture to be taken. Well, this time the photographer was sick. Thus, the picture was not taken.
