Indiana State Teachers' College is where she received her B.S. degree. 36 Mrs. Huddleston, home economics teacher, shows Imogene Nusbaum and Cynthia Wisler the perfect ending to a successful pie crust. The department covered nearly every aspect of homemaking which included cooking, sew- ing, child care, and solving family problems. Bob Gick, Wally Graham, and Art Baughman are learning to apply the skills which Mr. Guinther has taught them in shop class. The class provides training for a useful vo- cation in the future. Perhaps the boys will be- come very accurate with Do-It-Yourself pro- jects in their own homes. 37 Mr. Guinther, FFA sponsor, proudly displays a few of the plaques which the Riverdale Chap - ter recently won. A graduate of Ohio State University, Mr. Guinther also sponsors the freshman class and the boys’ 4-H Club. Impressing the idea that in Spanish one learns to understand and appreciate a different culture via language, Mrs, Mann shows Jerry Renfrow and Sandy Miller proper Spanish sentence construction. Language Studies Promote Mrs. Mann not only has lots of papers to grade, but is also the Beta Club and 8th grade spon- sor. Before teaching, she attended Manchester College where she received her A.B, degree. 38 Mrs, Campbell teaches English students Dar- lene Timmerman and David Hubbard a new word, TWOP, which is a Talker WithOut Permission. Her main objective was to teach the students the parts of speech and their uses. Variety in class work included a trip to the Fort Wayne Library. 39 A look of joy as Mrs, Campbell decided on the junior and senior class plays. She was kept busy as play director and 7th grade sponsor. Olivet Nazarene College is her Alma Mater for there she received her B.S, degree. Miss Martin's cheerful smile stimulates her students before health class--or maybe history-- or perhaps a Jr. class meeting. At Purdue, where she earned her B.S. de- gree, Miss Martin was on the Lafayette Swim- ming Team, which she labels a favorite past time. 40 Under the direction of Miss Martin, tne seventh grade physical education class learns the basic fundamentals and rules of volleyball. Physical education provides an opportunity for the girls of Riverdale to participate in ath- letic activities. Will Gene get the tip? Through seasonal activities such as basket - ball, baseball, and track, Mr. Zonker stresses the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. 41 Quite often Mr. Zonker can be found in the Physical Ed. equipment room as he is assistant coach plus teaching science, Indiana history, and sponsoring the 7th graders. Presently Mr. Zonker is doing graduate work at Ball State. We find this hard to believe with I.U. as his alma mater. Alcohol + alcohol = alcohol?? John Baker smiles as Leota Schrader and Mrs. Fahl explain how to decrease the % of algebraic alcohol. A basic math background must be mastered before venturing to the unknown. This founda- tion is being laid through Mrs. Fahl's advanced algebra course. Should I, or shouldn't I give him that fifth mark? No psychology courses at Taylor Uni- versity, Kentucky University, or Asbury Col- lege could solve that problem! Mrs. Fahl teaches junior high mathematics, algebra 1, and advanced algebra with sponsor- ing the Freshman class on the side. 42 Mr. Hartung tries to explain an advanced math angle to Ronnie Smith and Paul Friend. In his physics class, a main objective for the students is to learn basic laws which govern our environment and are static in future sci- entists' foundation. 43 Although kept busy on the job with classes in general math, 7th grade arithmetic, physics, geometry, and sponsoring the sophomores; Mr. Hartung finds time to approve his new house plans. Evidently a B.S. degree at Anderson College includes lessons on what to do in your free time! Outside duties for Mrs. Moser vary from keeping our mimeograph in top shape to sponsoring the seniors, pep club, and yearbook. A B.S. degree from Ball State plus Carthage College education helped make her courses run smooth. Mrs. Moser's typing I classes built the founda - tion for the second year course. Pupils were taught to type accurately with speed. They also learned to skillfully type business and personal problems. 44 Carolyn Fogle and Mr. Hansen discuss the few exceptions to many new laws learned in our new subject--Business Law. Mr. Hansen's biggest objective was to instill the importance of applying these laws daily. 45 Another test being pulled out of the file! Students agree that Manchester College and the University of Chicago where Mr. Hansen received his B.S. and M.S. degrees, really taught him how to make a test. Being junior class sponsor keeps him well occupied after hours. | Student Lele After school hours, Riverdale students usually are dancing to the latest records, having a gab session, or attending extra- curricular activities. Wally Graham and Linda Lothamer learn the relationship of Indiana to the United States. This, Mr. Brookfield believes is essential in learning the government of each. Juniors and seniors visited the State House to see congress in action, furthering their Indiana background. Beware when you see this car! Through Driver Training, Mr. Brookfield is hopeful of better drivers. Before coaching basketball at Riverdale; he played pro ball with the former Anderson Packers and the Rochester Royals. At West Texas State he earned his B.S.; specializing in playing basketball HH SCHOOL 4 NING CAR 4 gee ie LOE), 46 Wrong notes bring a sharp look especially the day preceeding the Christmas concert. Mr. Lowery conditioned our band for play- ing at home basketball games, parades, and contests by enforcing his strict merit system. 47 aS A pause that refreshes! With band and chorus directing, Mr. Lowery keeps well occu- pied but by wisely budgeting time, he plays an oboe in the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra. Ohio State University is his alma mater where he received his B.S. in Education. The long and short of it! To each his own hair style! The projects include: cloth- ing, crafts, food preservation, canning, room improvement, health and safety, baking, and Junior Leadership, Their activities include home applied demonstrations and county dress reviews. The county fair gives all the girls a chance to display their finished projects. 60 Carol Baker and Sharon Kay Smith received trips to the State Junior Leaders’ Conference by accumulating points which they earned by working on their various projects.
