Orgonizorions - FRIENDS F OR LIFE Riverdale's chapter of S.A.D.D. had a successful year. Fighting the misconception that drinlsing is okay, so long as the student does not drive proved to be a year-long effort, Rather than to drive the point home by hammering teens with alcohol-consumption informatiion, this group's emphasis was to provide alternatives too chemically-dependent recreation. October's election of officers produced the fol- lowing slate: Amy Covemalser, President, Me- lissa Allison, Vice President, ond Laura Mumma, Sec. !Treas. That same month, the group sent Melissa Allison and Walt Farwell to a weekend- long, state-sponsored, seminar, Prqect Gradu- ation. November was poster month. The Prize -a multi-media presentation pro- moting self-esteem and acceptance, was SADD's early Christmas gift to the student body. A mid winter mixed intramural volleyball league became SADD's boldest initiative to- ward promoting healthy activity with 80 par- ticipants for its first round. The club bought supper for the league's winning team at a pizza party ending the season March 25. The yeor's final activity was assisting the Globe with promoting alcohol-free graduation celebrations for its valued friends in the class of 1986. Journalism was dropped second semester of last year due to a lack of support by the students. lt was brought back with a relatively new staff, so a few changes were made. Class was held seventh hour, the same as in past years, and the paper was published in cooperation with the Dispatch Metro East News. However stu- dents used books and had tests over information and terms learned. This helped the content of writing in the Rampage. Thanks to student support, the Rampage survived and will contin- ue if we show concern. khM ia,. M Row 1-L to R- Jim McCooIey, Todd DeWilfond, Brian Bowles. Activities - Yahoo! was everyone's spirit as they participated in the American West day held by Mr. Lancaster and his American West students. This year there was a covered wagon and a pot bellied stove added to the occasion. There was a lot of tasty, not to mention spicy, food there. For instance, home- made chili, beans, cornbread, sour biscuits, pancakes, fish, and cherry pie. Coolsing was done the western way over open fires and the pot-bellied stove. Drinks included coffee, water, and their own home brew of white lightning. They even had tumble weed and hay, to set the mood. So, as the windy day ended, the old west disappeared quietly into the sunset. Hc. 1-The cowboys D. Fincher, D. DeWitre, N. Kerner, C. Claeys, and the Indian W, McKenna catch their thief J. Burgraff. They participated in the Pioclsridge tournament where they fell to two teams, and came up, tied for third place. The conference championship was also captured as the team left their freshfsoph career in search for an even more successful season as varsity players. The freshman team showed a lot of improvement during their season as they learned harder slsllls and tools on more difficult reams. Front Row, left to right: Willie Ballard, Craig Slaughter, Sean Tkiney, Troy Stinson, Todd Wallace, Tony Deeth. , The Riverdale varsity football team struggled to a 2-7 record, but their record was somewhat misleading. The team started the season with only twelve players because of irjuries. Because of the shortage of players, several sophomores had to be moved up to the varsity level. The Rams also had to face an extremely difficult schedule, considering that three of their losses came against teams who went to the state playoffs. The Rams earned their first win ofthe year when they scalped the Savanna Indians, 14-o. They finished the season on a very high note by shutting out arch-rival Erie, 38-O. The varsity captains were Troy Stinson, who was named most valuable player and best defensive player, and Sean Riney, who was named best blocl-ter. A record of four wins, four losses, and one tie may seem like a very average year, but for the Fresh- Soph Football Team the record doesn't show the whole story. The closeness of the scores in the games made for a lot of excite- ment for the Ram fans and play- ers. Coach Boyd will be sending twen- ty players to the Varsity team of 1987. James Todd will have The Chet Plumb Outstanding PIayer award under his belt. Eight Freshman players received their numerals this season. The 108586 wrestling squad didn't get off to a very good start, but the outcome mode up for any of the previous unfortunate matches. The foct that ten wrestlers went into Regionals, seven into sectionals, and two into state com- petition, gave fans a postitive outlook on the season. CMr. Boyd statedD Although illness and iryury plagued the gropplers through most of the season the squad achieved in placing 5rh at the Stillman Valley tournament, Std at prinf ceton tournament, and second at Regionals. With these highlights came a new individual record for the quickest pin, made by Walt Farwell with an 8 second pin, The hard worls of the matmen throughout their season proved to be worthwhile as their season ended sucf cessfully and new goals were made for the one ahead. The Junior Varsity squad was very small, our didn't let that stand in the way of the schedule they faced, New skills as well as old exper- ience, will help in the making of an even more successful record in the 198087 season. For example: Senior Jay Verbeke, smashed two school re- cords at this year's Erie Relays. He won the 100 and 200 meter dashes, a time of 10.9 earning the title in the 200 meter prize. Verbeke's time in the 100 set a new River- dale record, breaking that of N. Mckell, set in 1962, as well as establish- ing a new 200 meter high mark, previously held by Marty Hurry in 1976. Throughout the season the team worked toward getting better times and greater dis- tances. Although in the next year there will be many seniors lost, due to graduation, there is much young talent which could prove for an exciting 8087 track sea- son. Jay Verbeke was a Double- Qualifier at the State Track Meet. Pic. 1- Varsity Track Team, from Row, Left rotkight- B. DeDecker, B. CLASS TRIBUTE Larry J, Molitor died on February 20th after a tragic accident. I ' Q DEDICATED TO LARRY MOLITOR It was the next morning after, that we'd lost our best friend, we could look outside and all that was there was that bright warm sunshine, Larry was gone and this was his way to soy, that he is as safe os he can be, He is happy He is fine. Although nothing in this world can ever bring him back - we can always remember his smile even though each of our lives tenderly, now was his time and when it's ours we'll see him again ---- up there. Now's the time when we all can say how fragile a life really is, Having a piece of us token away and knowing there's nothing we can do. Let's all remember the special times and the things he was able to do, The sorrow that we share is sweet - always love him ---- he'll always love you. This page Donated and Paid for Missy Fish by the Junior Class of 1986. LARRY ...... Those l Know, Please don't cry. This isn't going to be A forever goodbye, l'll see you again, When you're wanted above. To the world full of happiness, And too the world full of love, I AM HAPPY In God's peaceful home. And someday when you join me You'll understand - l'm not alone. ln the future ahead, Let me live in your heart. Then the day you Come see me, Well make a new start, So now that l am at my rest . . . I want all to think Of the times that were best. Think of me .... When you smile and cry but remember this isn't A FOREVER GOODBYE. Tami Baldwin O .,,'., 0 0 6 F Lag F Q O ,Q 5 w 1 A . She was definitely pleased at the drop in the rate of pregnancy and credits much of it to the Parents-Too-Soon presentation, She would like to have more time in the classroom and would like the students to know she's there to answer any questions. MRS TRAYLOR Entering the Reference area of the Rambler Zone, we found Mrs, Traylor, the head librarian, busy at work with a happy smile on her face, The reason for this was because this year she felt the library had improved in almost every area, especially on the cutdown of study halls, in the Library. She hopes to see the library being used more by teachers and students for fun, instead of things they have to do. M155 PEARSON ln the Rambler Zone, small things are often taken for granted. Such an example is spee-ch.eNot everyone has perfect speech in the Rambler Zone, but Miss Pearson, the district speech therapist was out to change that. She worked at all three schools, which included helping four students at the high school. Miss Pearson remarked, The only thing I can complain about is the paperwork, but you'll always have that, l L Administration - P A -wfxl BU5 DRIVERS AND MAINTENANCE As one loolsed oround our school, ir vvos olvvoys lsepr up.
