Rikk painted many picturc. in the cafete- ria and around the school as part of Dr, Rucker's school beautification project. He also drew and designed a cari cature of the 1984 senior class which the Close Up Club then sold to raise funds for their trip to Washington. Rikk spread himself thin all year long: he not only did the above- mentioned projects, he also drew and designed the cover and division page arts for the 1984 Rambler Yearbook . . , This page isjust to thank Rikk for all the hard work he's put into everyth- ing he has done for the Yearbook, Close Up Club, and most importantly the school. Top Left' One of the many school beautification pro- jects Rikk has painted. Top Right: Rikk, drawing a di- vision page for the year- book. Left: Rikk Conant, showing off the picture he drew of this year's senior class. ..84,, OF THE CLASS CIIASSIEY I - :-5353? Q 515555 Kia! .-KZ ' V, X f??5'4 ' 'S X1 'J :xx g I . Q22 You left so suddenly we didn't have a chance to say good-bye. We hope you know we miss you a lot and our lives are sort of empty now. You were a great friend and we're glad you touched our lives. lt's hard to realize that you'll never be back - Never there to tell us jokes and make us laugh. Never there to share our se- crets and our dreams. Never there to plan our future and cry about our past. You left so suddenly, but someday we'Il meet again. written by: Diane Black S E S ,MAN 2 2 3 4 i i E X 2 l l f 5 5 On August 9, 1983, Renee Miller passed away. She died suddenly in her home, after a heart fibrillation. Renee was sixteen years old and ready to begin her Junior year in High School. She was a member of the Ram Marching Band her Freshmen and Sophomore year as well as a matmaid her sophomore year. Renee always had a smile on her face and her happy-go-lucky attitude made everyone feel good. Paid for and donated by the class of 85 . Drawing and Design, Art I and ll, Advanced Art Studio Problems, Painting, Sculpture and Pottery, and Photography are the classes Mr. Tadlock teach- es. He too is quite talented himself, having done many different paintings. French l and ll were taught by Mrs. Gose, who was new at Riverdale this year. We all welcome her and we are thankful that we got such a good teacher. lt is important to have a foreign language at Riverdale so we hope to see ours continued. Mr. Bodine one of our counselors is in charge of the Area Vocational Program. Many students partici- pated this year. Area Vocational gives students a chance to take courses at United Township High School that are not available at Riverdale. He has en- joyed instructing the Chamber Choir. They traveled to St. Louis in April to compete in the Six Flags National Choral Contest. Mr., McQuaid has learned about re- sponsibilities, obligations, and the rewards of being a teacher. He can't say that he has learned it all in one year, but the knowledge and confidence he has gained seems phenomenal. But they polished off the rest of the season and ended with a fine record of 11-6. The team set several records including five individual records by Chuck Fiser. There were also team records set at Thompson and Rock Falls. They also broke the old Byron Hills record by 7 strokes. The Rams placed fifth at the Monmouth tournament out of 18 schools. Chuck Fiser placed first with a 71. The team also placed well at their own tournament, taking second place and missing first place by only 1 stroke. Fiser placed first with a strong 70 and Tim Albrecht placed third with a 75. The team also finished second at the Conference tournament. Fiser captured first place with a 74, and Chuck Fedderson placed third with an 81. Chuck Fiser capped off an outstanding high school career by becoming the first golfer in Riverdale's history to win first place in the lllinios State Tournament. The rest of the royalty includes Juniors Tim Smith and Lisa Plumb, Sophomores Chuck Ditto and Jody DeWitte. Chad Denny was kind enough to stand in for the ill Chuck Ditto. Freshman Randy Thompson and Stephinie Hienson were the attendants for their class. Last year's queen, Sherri Converse, returned for the homecoming activities. Steve Borschel replaces last years king, Shane McCormic, who could not attend. The game Friday night was not as successful as the rest of the homecoming activities, as the mighty Rams lost to Morrison. The dance on Saturday was a big hit as Nothing Fancy, Mr. Murphy's band, played a large variety of songs. Bot- tom Left: The bench, watching hopefullyl Bot- tom Right: S. Wildermouth, S. Schott. D. Balt- zell, M. Wigant, Sectional bound. This year the wrestling team lost former coaches Mr. Lancaster and Mr. Michel. Replacing them were Mr. Boyd and Mr. Bergren, two newcomers to Riverdale. Mr. Boyd was previously a wrestling coach at an Iowa high school before he came to Riverdale. Mr. Bergren, on the other hand, is from Illinois. but instead of being a wrestling coach he was and still is an active judo enthusiast. Mr. Boyd and Mr. Bergren had a big challenge ahead of them when they took over the jobs of coaches because they had two big obstacles to cross before they could even start the season. The first was they had to gain the respect of and get acquainted with each and every wrestler on the squad. The second being the fact that they had no idea as to the goals and capabilities of each young man on the team. Mr. Boyd himself added that making the transition between the difference in rules in Iowa and Illinois was a tough part of coaching the team. The biggest problem that Mr. Bergren admitted having was the fact that he knew very little about wrestling but the year was a learning experience for him. In the next years Mr. Bergren wishes to incorporate more judo technique. Coaches Boyd and Bergren look with promise to next year. The team which is fully sanctioned but not financially supported by the high school was again coached and sponsored by Ted Murphy.
