The Riverdale Music Department ac- quired new personnel in both the band and the choir. Mr. Fred Taylor took responsi- bility for directing and teaching the band and choir. The band worked hard for two weeks before school started last fall to prepare for marching season. There were two main changes that came about this year in the Marching Rams. The hrst was that the band memorized all marching music and performed their shows without it. The sec- ond change was that for each show, the band played a dance number and danced while playing it. The Music Department suffered several budget cuts, including all funds for trips, but Rockford College paid expenses for buses and food so the band was able to attend one of their games. The Marching Rams performed a half-time show for the basketball game and took a tour of the college. The band performed for other activities such as the Homecoming bon1ire,a Thanksgiving service, basketball games, wrestling meets, Spring and Christmas concerts and contest. The nineteen seventy nine-eighty RIVERDALE SR HIGH Choir. New Teacher! New kind of Choir! This year we had a new teacher Nlr. Taylor, who brought a lot of new ideas and experience with him. He believes we have an outstanding choir. The choir members also think this, too. The choir has grown immensely. The program has been beefed up and students have gained experience to the point where even the students outside the music de- partment notice. This year there were a few cuts so there was no lVladricaI Dinner. Some Choir members said that they would like to be able to have at least one Nladrical Dinner and a Women's choir but the cost is to high. Even a few have decided to make music a vocation. lVlr. Taylor said that there was one thing his students should remember- 'lAlways remember that wheather or not you like it the art is above all of us. 4 5 .:-:. 1 ,X 'M 6 28 l ,,,. . ..
