Many Goals Mr. Grady, Principal Mrs. Palmer, Secretary. Mrs. Clendenin, Receptionist. Mr. Grady, principal of Riverdale High School, strived for several things this year. One of these things was improved custodial services. A few students helped out by sweeping the halls and doing other odd jobs, this gave Mr. Bonds, the custodian, more time to work on more impor- tant things. Another thing he would like to see is the reinstatement ofthe Area Vocational program. It was dis- continued this year as one of the many cutbacks due to the new bud- get. For something new, he would like to see a foreign language pro- gram at Riverdale. He feels it is something the school has always needed and should have. One problem this year was the locked restroom situation, where locks were placed on the doors to prevent vandalism and destruction. Mr. Grady said he was pleased with the way the students carried out their protest to have them unlocked, where, instead of destruction and vandalism, they signed peditions and took them to the board with their plan for keeping them unlocked. -'JT' Mr. Bodine, Guidance Counselor. Our Superintendent lVlr. Ryan, along with the school board and lVlr. Gillespie, strug- gled throughout the year with the budget. Several programs were cut or threatened. This brought opposition and many of the programs became self-sup- ported. Caused by the failure of the parents to vote, the defeat of the referendum in November was a big letdown for Ryan and the school system. Despite the eight percent tax increase for transportation, the Riverdale school system was quoted as ubarely holding its own. lVlr. Gillespie continued the task of Director of Career Edu- cation. He guided all education in order to provide students of Riverdale with an education which equipped them for their future in a career. Nlr. Gillespie 6 Administration Sets gas, Board mem bers. Cooks show enthusiasm The cooks showed much more enthusiasm this year. They dressed up in costumes for Hal- loween. They also gave the Ala Carte section its own line. Sepa- rating the Ala Carte cut down congestion and allowed the menu to be expanded. This move was very popular with the students. The library added a new video recorder and camera. Nlrs. De- cap recorded many television programs which were used by almost all of the teachers. It was also used to film the home basketball and wrestling meets. The Transportation Depart- ment was brought relief from rising gas prices by a Tranpor- tation referendum in November. Iona Wigant, transportation de- partment head, Dan Kennedy, head bus mechanic, and the school maintenance department were very thankful for the mild winter. Nlr.
