Wrestling fans were enthusiastic about the sport's addition ' our athletic program. W Good F r1ends his year saw a major change in the Adopt-a-School program. Our two-year association with Samsonite ended, and State Farm Insurance Company became our new adoptive business parent. The rotation of schools and businesses provided new areas of expertise to share in strengthening education. The State Farm and Riverdale com- mittees met on a monthly basis to discuss and plan activities that would successfully promote the program. The State Farm committee included Jim Johnson-Chairman, Jerry Brown, Don Floyd, Bob Haston, Jane Jones, Janice Millsaps, Royce O'Neal, David Ross, Geniece Todd, and Tim Williams. River- dale continued with the same committee as the past two years. State Farm officially adopted Riverdale at the Homecoming pep rally. The committee received a further taste of Warrior hospitality at the Adopt-a-School breakfast prepared by Com- mercial Foods. At that time, plans for a Speaker's Bureau, math and reading tutors, and Teacher Appreciation reception were some of the activities outlined, along with a possible co- op program and donations of equipment and supplies. State Farm also contributed miniature footballs for pep rallies and ballgames. Our relationship with State Farm promised to be as benefi- cial as our previous tie with Samsonite. Samsonite's last contri- bution as our adoptors was a 33,000 donation to establish a wrestling program. Our school was enriched by the efforts of our good neighbors and friends in the business community, and we hoped their association with Riverdale would prove rewarding for them as well. vm -B I il f gl N 13,415.3 num 86 Adopt-a-School Committee-Row one: Jane Hulon Watson, Don Floyd, lvan Duggin, Jim Williams, Dave Ross, s, Janice Millsaps, Violet Ognio, Betty Jo Elrod, Helen Jen- Jerry Brown, Michael Vanzant, Jim Johnson, Bob I-laston, Char' s, Faye Phillips, Oma McNabb, Donnell Austin.
