DALY 1966-1982 The students and staff of Riverdale High School were shocked by the death of Michelle Daly in an automobile accident In late September Words cannot express the deep sense ol loss and sadness that we experienced As a symbol of what Michelle meant to us. we proudly dedicate ARROWHEAD 1983 to her memory Death is in such strange contradiction to life that it is no matter for wonder that we recoil from it, and turn to remembrances, and find recompense in perceiving that those we have loved live in our memories as intensely as if they were still before our eyes. A Class C school in a pre- dominately Class B confer- ence usually has few oppor- tunities to challenge for a conference championship. The 1981-82 Chieftain girls had the opportunity and did not let it slip away. Compil- ing an 11-1 conference re- cord, the girls easily outdis- tanced second place Prairie du Chien 9-3 for their first ever SWAL Conference Championship. The 11 con- ference victories and the 17 regular season wins in 1981- 82 represented new school records. Guard Jo- Deen Harness was chosen to the SWAL All-Confer- ence 1st team for the 4th consecutive year. Center Judy Schreck and guard Cindy Faga were named to the SWAL All-Conference 2nd team and forward The- resa Pechan received All- Conference honorable mention. Graduation hurt the Chieftains dearly for the 1982- 83 season. Coach Schultz counted heavily on Senior guard Cindy Faga, the only returning starter, to provide the leadership for a team which was composed of very talented but inexpe- rienced juniors. The highlight of the year was River- dale’s third place finish in the Confer- ence Tournament. Two Riverdale play- ers, Matt Varney and Tim Bomkamp, received first team All-Conference rec- ognition and Kip Schreck received honorable mention. L. 14. 25. 27. 31. 118 THANK YOU We, the three editors, have endured many trials and tribulations throughout our dictatorship’s of this yearbook year. As we look back on the yearbook meetings of the past year, we see the reliable but zany Helen Krause, fixing all of our mistakes (and we made alot of them). She was a friend, a diplomat and a great field general. We all love you and won't ever forget you. Thank you once again. We, the three editors, would also wish to say a special, special thank you to those great troopers who gave all they were asked to give to the annual cause: Lorna Baumann, Cindy Faga, Maloy Heise, Barb Hying, Hartzell Phetteplace, Susan Moore and Charise Miller. We know all of you would have given more of yourself if we asked you to. Also thanks to the other staff members for their contributions. We, the three editors, express special appreciation to Brian Walsh and his magic pen, because the sun would not have risen without him. In addition to Brian, we show special recognition to Darla fast fingers Heise for her never ending and rarely complaining hours and hours at the rattling keyboard. She did all the typing and most of the correcting of grammar throughout the yearbook. We, the editors, give a cheer (rah! rah! rah!) for her work. We, the three editors, also would like people to realize the yearbook would not be a success without outside help. A thank you to Lou Coopey for his expert photography; to Bob Anderson for advice to student photographers; to Wendell Smith for throwing us a life pre- server when it looked like we were going down for the 52nd time as many of the sport action and team pictures were shot and developed by him; and to Betty France and Stan Patch for the beautiful color photography on the cover. We, the three editors, would also like to thank all of those bizarre and totally tubular people (Mike and Bob) who lent a hand if not a foot towards our cause of completion. To each and every one of you who have helped us in any way, we, the three editors, would like to once again give a big thanks to all of you! You’re the best! Sincerely yours in Krause, we remain most reverently and truly yours, Susan Rockefeller John DeLorean Patch Pechan Scott Barnum Bailey Taylor 119 As the sunset marks the end of the day, so this page marks the end of ARROWHEAD 1983. The school year comes to an end; for the seniors, a chapter of their life ends. While these are ambivalent times, combining ex- hilaration and sadness, we can be assured that just as the sun will rise another day, we have more to look forward to. 120 AUTOGRAPHS AUTOGRAPHS AUTOGRAPHS AUTOGRAPHS ' -
