North Central Evaluation The 1973-74 school year was marked by Riverdale's successful application tor membership in the North central As- sociation of Colleges and Seconda y Schools. Beginning with the Class of 1974. graduates of Riverdale will be ac- corded full status as graduates of a full} accredited high school. The North Central Association was founded in 1895 and numbers among its members the University of Wisconsin at Madison and all State Universities. It is essentially an association seeking to improve education in a nineteen state area stretching from Arizona to Ohio. Membership means that a school meets rather stringent standards in quality of teacher preparation, curriculum offered, facilities, student services, and library services. The events leading to membership and accreditation began during the 1971-72 school year when the faculty began an intensive self-study. This self-study, using the Fourth Edition forms from the National Study of Secondary School Evaluations, continued throughout the 1971-72 and 1972-73 school years. During the self study teachers, students, custodial, and supportive personnel were involved in examining the complete operation o! the school. In addition, parents of high school students and all former Riverdale graduates were surveyed for their opinions on the existing program and curriculum. Their suggestions and comments were included in the self-study. In September. 1973 the chairman of the North Central Visitation team. Dr. Gerald Skaar ol Wisconsin Rapids, visited Riverdale to ascertain whether the self-stud} had been satisfactorily completed. After his examination of the prepared study, he indicated the scheduled visitation could take place. On October 16 and 17. 1973 Riverdale High School hosted thirty-six evaluators from throughout southern and cen- tral Wisconsin. The evaluation team was composed of high school teachers, uni versit} professors. Department of Public Instruction personnel, high school principals and district superintendents. Each teacher was visited in the classroom, curriculum guides were studied, and numerous conversations took place between the visiting team and the students and staff of the school. The findings of the visiting team ere compiled and sent to the state executive board ot the North Central Associa- tion for their evaluation. On December 13 the school was notified that the state committee had favorably reviewed the team report and would recommend th..t Riverdale be accorded full accreditation at the annual meeting in Chicago. The 1973-74 school }ear reflects a proud moment for our high school and it should right 1} be shared b} students and staff alike. 3 1 Faculty i Administr r THE SCHOOL BOARD. But I don't want to play this music. 56 The band performed in several activities such as parades, half- time shows, the Christmas and Pops-Snax concerts, Festival and the Spring concert. Again in class A, for the second year in a row, the band played THE BARBER OF SEVILLE (Overture) by Rossini and the PRELUDE AND FUGUE IN Ab by Bach. Danny must be nervous. Spring Fling Do it like this! I like to cut out. What now??? Many old and beautiful traditions have given way to new and dif- ferent ideas. Riverdale's Prom was one of these traditions as the Class of '74 brought the idea Spring Fling to RHS. The popular song Pieces of April was the theme of the semi-formal dance on April 27, 1973. The rock group, Storm replaced the nostalgic orchestra. The coronation was highlighted by the announcement by emcee, Ercill Faga, that Debbie Olson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Olson and Jerry Nankee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nankee had been chosen by the Junior Class as the Queen and King of its Spring Fling. 63 The Homecoming at Riverdale this year was a combination of disap- pointments and victories. Although the Senior football players lost their last Homecoming game to Prairie du Chien, the Senior class boasted of first place in the float competition. Adding to the annual excitement of Homecoming was a blazing bonfire, a rousing snake- dance and parade. Traditionally, the Riverdale High School march- ing band performed a half-time show Moon Shot . The theme this year for the Homecoming dance was, Precious and Few, featuring Snow Blind. Queen Peg- gy Goplin and King Jim Miess reigned over the Homecoming activities. THE HOMECOMING COURT.
