On the evening of April 24, 1971, the Class of 1972 presented its Junior Prom We've Only Just Begun. The gym was turned into a romantic ball room. Spot- lights shone on sets that told the story of the important events in everyone's life. If you walked through a heart, you would enter a park that contained the long and winding road. You could tell by the cafeteria and the patio that the decorations weren't con- fined to the gym. There was a swing on the patio and a wishing well and lounge chairs in the cafeteria. The Royalty was announced just before the Grand March. Marilyn Pechan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Pechan, was crowned Queen. Tim Mathews, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Mathews, was named King. Susan Patch and David Roh were the Miniature Royalty. The King and Queen lead the Grand March and everyone joined in. John Marshall and the Melody Kings provided the music. Linda Hedrick sang We've Only Just Begun. The 1971 Prom was a success and was enjoyed by all that attended. . Just Begun ” You could tell by their smiles that they were enjoying the evening. The girls on court discussed their plans for the evening of prom, while Barb was being attacked by a stapler. Ginger and Dale stopped working on decorations so they could swing a little. 5 a- b- c- d- e- f- g- h- i- j- k-1- mm- n?! ? The Cramming Course! Doug — The Thinker! Caught in the act! An evening full of fun, consisting of skits, a bonfire, and snake dance, began the 1971 Homecoming activities. Each class, the Drama Club, and the cheerleaders participated in the skits. The seniors won first place for the best skit. The seniors had constructed the bonfire and it was lit following the skits. There was then a pep rally around the blazing fire. After the bonfire, everyone joined hands in the snake dance. The next afternoon school was dismissed and the parade began. The senior high band and the junior high band honored us with their presence. Each class entered a float in the parade. The juniors won first place for the best float. That evening, in one of the most excit- ing Homecoming games in recent years, the Riverdale Chieftains battled to a 6-6 tie with the Richland Center Hornets. Chieftain fans could be heard for miles around when Charlie Kratochvill made our touchdown. During halftime, Chieftain fans saw a spectacular halftime show put on by the band. Marilyn Pechan performed a lights out routine with a fire baton. After the game the activities were climaxed with the coronation and grand march, and dancing to the music of 8:15 . 8 A Glorious Remembrance The Homecoming festivities are a big event for both young and old. People lined up on both sides of the street as the band led the parade. The junior's float won first place in the Homecoming Parade. In one of the most exciting Homecoming games in recent years, the Riverdale Chieftains battled to a 6-6 tie with the Richland Center Hornets. The senior skit took first place on skit and bonfire night. Many parade goers thought that Muscoda was being invaded when the seniors presented their unusual Chieftain bug float. The senior and junior representa- tives took time to smile as they rode in the parade. 10 f As Go The Leaders THE RIVERDALE SCHOOL BOARD, STANDING LEFT TO RIGHT: Ralph Yonash, Roger Codager, Jerry Schell, Jesse Lewis. Esser District Administrator 14 So Goes The School Jerry E. Weiser High School Principal Student Council Advisor TO: THE CLASS OF 1972 The school year 1971-72 has a special significance for many people. To those in the Senior Class, the year marks the completion of twelve years of formal education. To your parents, the school year and its cul- minating graduation exercises are a deep source of parental pride and satisfaction. They have experienced all of your frustrations and joys . . . your failures and successes . . . the bad times and the good times. You will shortly embark on a var- iety of careers. Some will continue on in formal education in universi- ties, trade, and technical schools. Others will enter the world of work immediately. Whatever the choice, it will be filled with new experiences and challenges. Never before has the society you are entering been subjected to such rapid change. Once valued life guidelines have largely disappeared, new customs and values place greater importance on personal choice as the greatest determinant of life style. You will be forced to make more decisions in one month than your grandparents made in one year. I earnestly hope that your educa- tion at Riverdale High School will serve as the base for a rewarding life. To each of you, the faculty and I wish you success and Godspeed. Best Wishes, J. E. Watch for we shall someday be men and we will call a world ours, a world of tomorrow built on the dreams of yesterday. We, the children gone by, we have laughed, dreamed, smiled loved then somehow lost and now we find ourselves no longer the children we once were but not yet the men we shall be, realizing that lollipops and bicycle-scraped elbows have slowly faded and merely become an integral part of the mirage we call memories, weeping for somewhere along the way we have lost yesterday and are not quite sure where to find tomorrow. Yet we search and leave not an alley unwalked or a leaf unturned, never once lingering or looking back for some unseen someone they tell you is always there that someone who keeps whispering that it lies just around the next comer or over the next hill so we move on having no one better to whom we may turn than that conscious which lies in the depths of our own reality . . . - dale wells I'm shy! But I'm not shy! OOH! That turns me on.
