22 A Vox Fluminis A HAPPY LIFE lN BOARDING 1 1 l trial? l - -. Q -n.. lt Q 9 4' A -9 .vp ,ky -s self Q ' s- ,f 1-.1 Q ,b,x,f,,,,.s.f tl 7 RED HOUSE NOTES First of all, this is what we think of each other or what we'll probably remember the best in years to come. Didi: Catches on to her own jokes . . . only. Nina: Come to the Chateau with me: we shall be so happy der. Ebie: Elspeth will you do the honours. Maxine: Max, there's a man on the phone. I'm not in. Bev: Five feet one and a half inches of sunshine. Mary Mac.: Is this a needle I see before? Marion A.: 'Three Cheers for the Irishf' Jean: Calamity Jean. Joddy: It's a bird: it's a plane . . . it's Joddy. Joan: Her eyes are like stars . . . they come out at night. Eileen: Call me in the morning please. Phyllis: Breakfast: tweed coat and coffee. Marnie: Facial contortions. Sheila: Dimples and James. Dree: The Look. When we come back to see our daughters at Riverbend '???'? years from now, will life in the Red House still be the same as ours was this year? We are wondering if the iron will still not work, if the bathtub tap will still belch, and if the stairs will still squeak, especially when ascending or des- cending by dawn's early light? Will somebody still be taking their medicine on crackers, and will Sir James continue to rule on in his unassuming way? And yes, we'd hate to think of boarding without the bathroom battles and the alarm clock agitation. Will Alex, we wonder, still be fixing the fires in the morning, or will Alex's son have invented a device to provide hot water morning, noon, and night! If life in the future remains unchanged here, then we're almost certain to hear those H20 pleas XJINY Ngsfg foes guy and 'Wd W from the third floor. And of course there would be without exception musical powder boxes, cuddly dolls, dogs, clowns, pan-das, ralbbits and shamrocks. And your guess is as good as ours as to whether pocket book novels will continue to be passed around. Will kids then, be cutting bangs, losing wallets, forgetting laundry lbags, forgetting diets after lights outn, and forgetting that lights in closets can be seen from the street! Will our daughters supply t'he soap for everyone else, like we think we did, and will they, too, be the stooges to supply the entire house with toothpaste? Will those boarders, we wonder, be tidier than now, or will those all-fiamiliar J.Rf' notes be postedi in their usual conspicuous places instead. But above all we wonder if those boarders of the future will have a Mother in charge of them, as forgiving, under- standing, and generous as Mrs. Reid, For, with all credit due to Mrs. Reid, this past year has been a terrif. one as far as the boarders of the Red House are concerned, and as a result we'll never forget or regret it. THE WHITE HOUSE BOARDERS Good where lbasketball prevails, Energy that never fails. Often found among the moles, This is June Baker, Lots of things this girl can do, Dancing and singing too. For a boy called Jack, did fall, Pleasantin her ways to all. This is Phyllis Lamb. Peppy as a bubbling rill, Dark of eyes and never still, Favorite sulbject now is Bill. This is Carol Lamb.
