BOOSTER CLUB This year the Booster Club was to be divided into two different groups for the first time. The first group, which was organized shortly after the beginning of the school year, supported the football and cross country teams. The second group, which was to be organized at the start of the basketball and wrestling seasons, would support the basketball players and the wrestlers. The idea of dividing the Booster Club into seasonal sports would make it possible for students to back the specific sport in which they were interested. 60 W'PE 'tty OupP All Ihc Crapplcrs !— sun THE mm 61 SEATED: K. The money made from this game was put into the club treasury. There were other money-making activities such as selling pop at the basketball games, having food stands set up during music events, and selling River Valley sweaters and jackets. The money made from these activities is put towards activities that the lettermen want to do during the school year. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Membership in the National Honor Society has become recognized nationally as one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a high school student. While high scholarship is the primary requirement for consideration in election to the River Valley Chapter, three other qualities are stressed: leadership, character, and service. With a four point average, a student may be elected as a provisional member at the second semester of the sophomore year. For juniors the requirement is a 3.75 average, and for seniors an average of 3.50 is necessary for consideration for membership. It is the goal of the River Valley Chapter that its members not only demonstrate the best in scholarship, lead- ership, character, and service, but that they also exert a positive influence so as to promote improvement of those qualities in the entire student body. OFFICERS SEATED: Barb Liegel Secretary Maureen Duren Treasurer STANDING: Mark Ruhland President Donna Faber Vice President 76 CREATIVE WRITING STAFF: Bridget Cozine, Melody Walker, Alice Naffz. NEWSPAPER STAFF The newspaper staff is a group of students whose only goal is to get across school news in the most interesting way. This year, because of the many English courses, the Journalism class became this year's newspaper staff, along with other members of the student body. Also new for the staff this year is the publication of The Bridge once every month, instead of once every quarter, as it has been in the past. An activity of the staff was a tour through the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel building in Milwaukee. This year the Spanish Club raised money to send students from River Valley to Mexico. Included in the money-raising activities were a taco sale, a car wash, and pizza selling. We hope to do the same type of projects next year and possibly have another trip to Mexico. During the year slides were shown and talks were given by Marta Hernandez (foreign exchange student from Columbia, South America to River Valley) and Marge Hetzel (foreign exchange student from River Valley to Co- lumbia, South America). Spanish Class exhibits works from South America . I 79 ROW 1: Sally Ramsden, Julie Ruhland, Debra Klebesadel, Linda Larsen, Janet Shifflet. STUDENT COUNCIL The main purpose of the Student Council is to represent the student body in a fair and equal manner. More precisely, the Student Council acts as a middleman between the students and the Administration and School Board. Due to a new policy adopted by the School Board, two representatives from the Student Council are permitted to take part in the discussion of student-related issues at School Board meetings. This not only provides a more direct line of communication between the students and the School Board, but it also provides the School Board with a direct source for witnessing the student opinion.
