Its main purpose is to promote school spirit and create an interest in the activities of our teams. Meetings are held during the year and volunteers are found to pass out programs and sell booster buttons. Members also make posters and encourage attendance at games throughout the year. In the spring, Booster Club members who have earned a set amount of points for their efforts in boosting school spirit receive a letter. Special recognition is given to the outstanding member. «r, ; J tors sncif RX MIC see vou cffte KEYwhv ? MOUSEy ecuz we 58 ROW 1: Mike McKinney, Arlen Walker, Tony Weston, Ross Graves. CHESS CLUB With cries of your move! , check! , checkmate! , and occasional anguished groans, the members of the Chess Club continued their ferocious chessboard battles throughout the 71-72 school year. Improvement of members' chess-playing ability, the primary goal of the Chess Club was quite evident - so evident, in fact, that the club gained confidence and soon hopes to go on the road playing chess tournaments with other local schools. If the members demonstrate the same skill and concentration in those tournament games as they do while playing fellow RV enthusiasts, River Valley ought to have a championship chess team. 59 LOCAL LEVEL - ROW 1: K. It also tries to stress the various occupations related in any way to the field of Home Economics. This year we are trying to stress the state theme, FHA Handshake , by reaching out to others through service projects. Some service - fun projects used for this year included a Children's Halloween Party, a daddy-date night, caroling, and making favors for the children in hospitals. This year the River Valley chapter also hosted the District rally in which six other schools participated. We also raised money to send four girls and an advisor to the State Concention in June. It helps its members to grow socially, emotionally, and physically through the media of competition. Throughout the year, various activities are offered in which the girls can participate. As members they often attend play- days and sportsdays at other schools where they have a chance to meet and exchange ideas with other GAA groups. At River Valley, the GAA hopes to be able to offer a little of something to everyone interested. ROW 1: M. Nachreiner, SHEILA McCLUSKEY (Vice President), P. Wittmann, M. Limmex, J. Price, L. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY River Valley Chapter of National Honor Society grants recognition to those students whose high scholastic standing and general performance place them in the top of their class. The four virtues which NHS represents are: scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Seniors must have a 3. 5 grade point average to be eli- gible, while juniors must achieve a 3. 75 grade point. Sophomores are selected as only provisional members, and must have a straight A record. This year we entered two students - Mary Jon Hutter and Tony Weston - in the scholarship competition of the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Officers for the year were: Tony Weston, President; Mary Jon Hutter, Vice President; Sheila Dolan, Secretary; and Jerry Bums, Treasurer. NEWSPAPER STAFF Though River Valley's school paper The Bridge is published only four times a year, the work of the news- paper staff never stops. Whether it's writing, editing, photographing, arguing, drawing, arranging pages or distributing the finished product, there is always work to be done. Nevertheless, neither rain nor hail, sleet nor snow, late stories nor vanished photographers, lack of dictionaries nor lack of stories has kept the public- ation staff of The Bridge from their appointed duties. The members of the Student Council have many duties that they must perform. Above all, a member must be able to represent the student body and present their desires or complaints to the administration and faculty. He must also serve on the various committees to which he may be appointed. The Student Council is the school government and cannot function without the support of the student body. They were Gisela Guillen from Venezuela and Maribel Rodri- guez from Chile. Gisela was with us the entire school year while Maribel came for the second semester. They visited many places of interest while here and one spring day they asked if they could visit a farm and do some work. Their wish was granted. Maribel was brave enough to feed the bull. They fed hay to the cattle, fed milk to a baby calf, and even drove the Bobcat. 109 GRADUATION 1972 River Valley High School Principal, Morton G.
