Januar Semor Hlstor ln February 1938 the lanuary Sen1or Class of 1942 became freshmen Under th leadershrp of Mrss Parks and Mr Shavt ley the class got off to a good start They chose therr class colors dark and lrght blue elected class offlcers old candy started collectlng dues gave a prrvate party on March IO and put on a Professor Qurz Program The olfrcers were Dorothy 1vfcHaney presr dent Robert 1-lellar vrce prestdent Arlene Vatlade secretary and Tracy Den mnger treasurer The frrst socral event of our sophomore year was a publlc dance It was clurmg th1s year that many of our future athletes and musrcrans began to show promtse such as George Bohac1k Iames Fekete Randolph Royals Herbert Shultz Gordon Mathte and Harold G1ebel The Grrls Glee Club was well represented by Valerre Lewrs Ruth 1-lamtlton and Dora Fowler Our sopho rnore offrcers were Harold Grebel prestdent Robert Hellar vrce presxdent Ar lene Vallade secretary and Geneva 1-larrrs treasurer Boy were we proud when we became lunrors and moved rnto 3011 Nothrng could defeat us now lt wa 1n th1s year that we learned that we would gradu ate rn lanuarv rnstead of Tune because the classes were gettmg so large that two graduatxons a year would be necessary Of course we gave the usual dances and made money for the treasury but there were more rmportant thlngs that happened Frrst of all NG selected our class rrngs Then came Our offrcers were Harold Grebel presrdent Robert Hellar v1ce pres1dent Ruth Hamrlton secretary and Eleanor Lozon treasurer ln September 1941 we became 12A Sen1ors and somethmg very queer happened Because our class was small Mr Rosa gave us 346 as a homeroom mstead of the usual 313 We drdnt care because we will probably be the only semor class ever to have the room as a homeroom We were Just drffer ent Our frrst 1ob as semors was to elect class offtcers They were Harold Grebel presxdent Robert 1-lellar vrce prestdent W11ma Gamble secretary and Theodor Schubach treasurer We gave a dance elected offtcers for the an nual staff and sold Chrrstmas cards Our Sentor Play was The Late Chrtstopher Bean 1n wh1ch Maxlne Fore man and Robert Benham had the leadmg roles We were very grateful to Mr C E Horton for hrs most patrent efforts m makmg our play a success Near the end of the year thrngs happened so fast 1t rs hard to say lust what d1d happen We ordered announcements calhng cards went to be measured for caps and gowns and practrced marchrng for commencement An event that me could hardly wart for was the drnner dance lt was held on lartuary 28th rn the Spamsh Room of the Fort Shelby Hotel Deep rn all our memorres wrll be the last week of school IH wh1ch bacca laureate class day the d1nner dance and graduanon were held To our sponsors Mrss .Anne Parks and Mr George Shawley we were very thankful for therr excellent help and advrce They are two of the best sponsors a class could have Rlver Rouge lrhgh School w1ll always be deep 1n our memortes and w11l never be forgotten by the Ianuary Semor Class of 1942 16 O I e ' .
