Aubrey A. Spear, Jr. As we prepare to graduate the tenth class from River Road High School, l hope each student, teacher and parent will take the time to reflect on all of the many things that have been accomplished in such a short period of time. Our students can now compete with any school our size in academics, fine arts and athletics. lt has not been easy and many people deserve their share of credit in helping us to achieve our present status. Especially to be commended are the teachers and the at- titude of the students along with the support of the parents and community. The graduates of River Road High School are already beginning to take their place in society as medical doctors, attorneys, engineers, bankers, school teachers, etc. It is my hope that every graduate can feel pride in being a Wildcat and graduating from River Road High School. Principal I take this opportunity to thank the faculty and student body of River Road for making this, 1986-87, the year that will be remembered for being the i'Best School in the State of Texas. The lndustrial Arts Club is in its third year as a chartered member of TIASA CTexas lndustrial Arts Stu- dent Associationl. Members and Mr. Allen, sponsor, have tried to involve the club in activities that will pro- mote pride in River Road and also activities that add a little color to the daily activities of the students. The activities to add color included decorating the halls for Halloween and Thanksgiving, which was done for the first time last year. The other activity in this field in- cluded the annual door decorating contest at Christmas. This was the club's third year to have the con- test. The organization had one fund-raiser before Christmas and planned more for the spring semester. Some of these pertained to promoting school spirit. Mr, Allen said, We may be step- ping out of the boundaries that most Industrial Arts Clubs stay within, but we saw a need and we went for it. We hope to continue to promote spirit and a positive attitude at River Road High School, and join with any other organization that wishes to do the same. The players were faced with an unusual amount of injuries, but they played extremely well under many adverse circumstancesf The Wildcats were picked to finish in 5th place in the district race, but were able to finish 3rd. The highlights of the '86 season were the two victories over state ranked teams, being picked Team of the Week twice by the Amarillo Globe News, and being chosen Channel 10's Team of the Week once. The '86 Wildcats have set standards that future teams will have to set their goals by. 29 I . . . En h Said.!! WE DID IT 'llt wasnlt just another game, it was the game of a lifetime. Before the season, everyone dreams of beating them. The team we have never beaten, the team that could make a season - it could make a lifetime, and we did it. We won. It will never happen again, we were the first to beat Perrytonf' 'LAII week long, it seemed to me that we weren't even getting ready to play Perryton. Usually on Perryton week, everybody is fired up and yelling, LI hate redl' But this year was different. It was as if we knew that we were gonna win before the kick-off. We silently took the field, and when we walked off, we had done something that no other River Road team had done before. We had beaten Perryton. It was a game that I will always remember. It was a feeling l'll never have again. It made the season the best of my life. 'llt was a game that I thought about for nearly a year, and one that I dreamed about for weeks. Then when it came down to it, all the dreaming came to reality. I couldn't believe it, we won the big one. It was awesome. 'LWell, it was the game of the year. We played like a champion team. It doesn't matter how our season ended, but that game proved it all! Ya'll are a great bunch of guys! And I wouldn't have played with anyone else! This proves we are winners. We broke the tradition, and we hope other teams will follow in our footsteps. - The River Road Wildcat Football Team Before . . . After . . . Is. Letters were sent to each senior parent with the infor- mation concerning the ads. The ads were then compiled according to those who responded. Response was not as great as was anticipated but the staff feels that it will grow as people become more familiar 'with the senior a s. The 1987 Wildcat staff and advisor would like to thank the parents who helped finance these pages of the yearbook by giving their seniors a special congratula- tions that they will never forget, Congratulations Amber Q 9 at H 1 v lf' Q 2- N, Q We're very proud of you and pray for continuedsuc- To Kim Kilpatrick, a very special person that has cess in all you do. The 1987 Wildcat is an extension of a big group of people. lt took a whole lot of hard work and determination to complete it, I want to thank Mrs. Neal and my entire staff for making this the best yearbook possible. The yearbook was not all work in spite of all the time it took. l'll never forget the fun we shared in our class. I'll always remember the good times and the bad times, but I can look at this yearbook and tell we DARED TO BE!
