• Ingot 1979 River Forest Jr. -Sr. High School Indiana -Huber Blvd. Hobart, Indiana Hobart Township Community School Corporation Vol. 20 The 1979 INGOT is dedicated to the Senior Class and in particular to Miss Violet Kosanovich. Words alone cannot do justice to her. They could never adequately express the kindness, the wit, and wisdom of this lady. ;Miss Kosanovich had a deep sensitivity to the needs and aspirations of young people. Her countless hour g ervice , devotion, and dedication have enriched more people jin her 22 years of tea i® jHj4 igbart Township Corporation than can be imagined . Miss Kosanovich b | moved to secondar she spent the last e philosophy that becanTS ' SWfSHf facts . She believed in teaching human couldn ' t be pou ail . She believed in the ability of her students and through her belief, they came to believe in themselves . She demanded a lot, but she always gave more. River Forest has a void with the death of Miss Kosanovich. It is a void that cannot easily be closed. Her position has since been filled, but many years will pass before River Forest no longer feels her absence. Table Of Contents People 6 Academics 58 Activities 72 Sports 108 A d vertising 134 Index 146 The intent of the 1979 INGOT is to picture as many students as possible. From these opening pages through each division of the book, we have attempted to design the layout in such a man ner as to allow the greatest number of candids per page as is possible. Each division opens with a collage of pictures that represent the entire Junior- Senior High School . You will find that the Seniors do dominate the book, but this is how it should be . All the other grades, 7-11, have, to the best of our ability, been equally represented. The 1978-1979 school year is the first full year that River Forest has had the use of the new Industrial Arts (cafeteria) addition. Completed last year, the new wing was officially dedicated in November of 1978. The cafeteria, affectionally called the Ingot Room , is the haven of the student body not only at lunch, but before school, too. Even though vandalized during the year , it remained the gathering place of many of the students who came to eat breakfast, talk to their friends, or finish up homework. Even with a drop in the total enrollment of River Forest, enrollment has increased considerably in the Industrial Arts department since the new addition has been completed. Last year, by act of the School Board, River Forest High School with enrollment of over 700 and River Forest Junior High with enrollment of over 300 students were combined to form River Forest Junior-Senior High School with an enrollment of nearly 1 , 100 students . Robert Wright handle the High School. Together, they make sure that each student not only takes all of his required classes, but also classes that will be most beneficial to him in the future. Class schedules are done by computer, but our councilors still go over them with each student to ensure them the best academic year possible. Top left: Mrs. Iorio. Bottom left: Dr. Wright. G) CP G C3 CD 81 The Wassail, a medieval Christmas dinner, was put on by the choir and Mr. Brown in the Jr, High Multi-Purpose room as a reenactment of medieval Christmas traditions . The evening began with the annual parade of banners from Vienna, followed by the carrying in of the boar ' s head and the bringing in of the Yule log. St. Lucia, a Christian martyr who was burned at the stake for giving away her dowry, was then honored and afterwards the Wassail Bowl was lit. The evening ' s meal was composed of five courses which included everything from salad and shrimp cocktail to a main course of Cornish Hen. South American Pineapple was served for dessert. The dinner was concluded with the traditional drink from the Wassail Punch Bowl. Benny Knox decorates the Christmas trees with tiny animal ornaments to be given out at the Wassail .
