For many students and teachers a new game began just as the old one ended. This meant summer school. Students took classes dur- ing the summer for many reasons. Some had to make up classes they had previ- ously failed, and others simply wanted to broaden their knowledge. Whatever their reasons were, stu- dents found themselves suffering through lessons while their friends romped on beaches. A fairly large range of subjects was offered with everything from Biology to Drivers ' Education. Summer school began on June 13 and ended on August 11. Though pupils passed up joys of summer, many won games for their sacrifice. Between classes. Mr. Tippett inspects engine. 12 Student drivers anxiously await instructor.

For the game to begin, River Forest needed someone who could officially start the New Year. Mr. Billy J. Rosser gave the go ahead since he served as trustee of Hobart Township. Assisting Mr. Rosser was school superin- tendent, Mr. Henry Hayes. Mr. John Newton, the principal, and Mr. Robert Marszalek, the assistant principal, watched over the game board. They made sure that all players were moving properly. To reach their goals, the two men had to make decisions, discipline both students and teachers, and they had to enforce school rules.
