Mr. Robert Scobey and Mr. Tom Freeman aided students as guidance counselors. The counselors ' major responsi- bility was student schedules. At the end of the year, stu- dents had to make a decision about how they wanted to play the up-coming year. They chose classes from a large variety. Then it was Mr. Scobey ' s and Mr. Free- man ' s job to arrange classes to fulfill the wants and needs of students. Besides planning schedules, both men helped students with problems and assisted with choosing colleges to attend after graduation. Mrs. Semerau was the guidance office secretary. She was in charge of the sometimes impossible job of keeping order in the office. Mrs. Semerau kept things well under control. Mr. Robert Scobey, head counselor Mrs. Semerau, ready for work. Mrs. Epperson gets the beat. Sometimes a player doesn ' t feel well. For this reason, a nurse was provided. Mrs. Carolee Epperson had the good privilege to be River Forest School Nurse. When students were feeling a little under the weather, they always sought comfort in friendly confines of the nurse ' s office. There, beds were provided for the sick, though at times students took advantage of them to catch up on lost sleep. Aside from taking care of ill students every day, Mrs. Epperson also ran tests on pupils. These include tuber- culosis tests, and tests on eyes and ears. The year as a whole was quite busy for Mrs. Epperson and her associate Mrs. Sarah Jo Shearer. Sarah Jo Shearer, asst, nurse 10

For many students and teachers a new game began just as the old one ended. This meant summer school. Students took classes dur- ing the summer for many reasons. Some had to make up classes they had previ- ously failed, and others simply wanted to broaden their knowledge. Whatever their reasons were, stu- dents found themselves suffering through lessons while their friends romped on beaches. A fairly large range of subjects was offered with everything from Biology to Drivers ' Education. Summer school began on June 13 and ended on August 11. Though pupils passed up joys of summer, many won games for their sacrifice. Between classes. Mr. Tippett inspects engine. 12 Student drivers anxiously await instructor.
