Athletic meets highlight assemblies Assemblies at River Forest took on a different look as live athletic entertainment was incorporated in- to the assembly program. On October 27 the GAA inter- scholastic girl ' s hockey team de- feated Portage 4-2 in an all-school assembly. Before the end of the semester students were treated to another assembly in which the Ingot mat- men challenged and defeated Han- over Central 35-18. Regular assembly programs fea- tured inter-class spirit competi- tions based on presentations of individual class cheers, posters and skits. A panel of judges awarded letter grades to each class based on their participation in these pep sessions. A Christmas and Thanksgiving assembly, including performances by both the choir and the band, were held before school dismissed for these holidays. Hayes, Bernacet honored at half-time Oh, I can ' t believe it! exclaimed senior Diana Hayes as she was crowned 1971 Miss Ingot Spirit during halftime of the RF-Wirt basketball game. Diana received a dozen red roses, a corsage and a small locket to commemorate her coronation. Frank Bernacet, senior forward for the varsity team, was selected Mr. Basketball. Frank received a new basketball as a remembrance of the occasion. Other members of the home- coming court were Jackie Michna, Janine Rogers, Sharon Ondo, and Liz Been. These girls were nominated by the senior class one week prior to this event. After the game, in which RF defeated Wirt 68-66, a dance was held in the high school cafeteria. Student Council sponsored all home- coming activities. Left— Coach Newton and Al Bernacet watch as Wirt ties up the game.
