Rittman High students can elect to take Latin or Spanish and some students elect to study both languages. Latin may be considered' a dead language in some circles, but Mrs. Steiner regularly finds approximately'0ne- third of the eligible students in her Latin Classes, Spanish, taught by Miss Lance, is an elective for upper- class students with Spanish I and Spanish ll offered on alter- nate years. -. l 'jf' 'I' lu. 9

ENGLISH All graduates of Rittman High School have studied at least three years of English and the majority have taken English all four years The Freshmen Cup in the dark green dungeonb study grammar and literature under the able tutelage of Mr Pyle The Sopho mores also studying grammar and literature have Mrs Steiner and Mr Pyle for teachers Miss Lance Conducts classes in American Literature for uniors and English Literature for Seniors All English classes require book reports at regular intervals during the year Most of the books needed to fill this requirement are available in the school library AND SOCIAL STUDIES The Social Studies section of the curri culum of Rittman High School offers World blems and Economics All Juniors are required to study Amer ican History taught by Mr Hall to gain a knowledge of the rich background of our heritage Mr Fo ce and Mr Hall teach the Amer ican Problems classes which are a required for S mors Through this study S mors gain a knowledge of the workings of our demo- cratic form of government on local state and national levels 1 5 D P History, American History, American Pro- 7 ' 7 . r . - Q ' ' e . , e ' ' F 8

COMMERCIAL . The commercial classes of Rittman High are usually filled to overflowing. Most of the graduates from this program go on to office clerical jobs in the area. Regular classes are conducted in Typing I and II, Steno- graphy I and II, Office Practice and Bookkeeping by Mr. Turner. The commercial department moved this year into the rooms vacated by the Home Economics classes. These re- modeled facilities provide excellent quarters for this vo- cational training. 594' up 10
