Page Four As tar back as 1867 there was a Rutenour school dustru t although ut was classutued as a rural school lt became a town school un 1906 and un 1918 t oftucually became a furst class school Over thus peruod of years we had a num ber ot superuntendents who euther retured or nnoved on to other posutuons I 1920 Mr Hoech became the superuntetudent and has done a very excellent uob ever sunce ln comparuson to the present graduatung classes the turst graduatung class ot 1918 put only tour hugh school graduates unto the world In 1919 the e was no graduatung class and from 1920 on there has been a steady stream ot Rutenour graduates The Rutenour Hugh School was located un the Old Overland School buuldung untul 1924 and un the tall of that year they moved to what us now the J Hugh buuldung at 8740 Forest Avenue The story ot the hugh school whule on Forest Avenue was one of contunuung expansuon and numerous addutuons to the buuldung Sunce uts organuzatuon the system had consusted of eught grades on the elementary level and tour on the Hugh School level ln 1950 thus type ot organuzatuon was changed wuth the untroductuon ot a kundergarten and a uunuor hugh lt us a well known tact that these Unuted States are very versatule when ut comes to economuc changes Rutenour has over the years trued to keep up wuth the ever changung cuvuluzatuon In tryung to meet thus enormous demand Rute nouu has over the years added such ttungs as the cornmercual courses luke typung and shorthand Kun 192-411 athletucs chemustry DO and vocatuonal school Wuth the help ot the state the vocatuonal school was establtshecl at the close ot the Second World War Other thungs whuch have been added are the Band guudance teacher and specual teachers tor lup readung and a home teachung sys tem Over the ears Rutenour has had total raduatuou of A 622 tudeuuts not Y Q uncludung thus years class The buggest problems tacung the dustruct us that of tunancung an ade tuate statt and buuldung program A few hustorucal facts may prove to be unterestuuuq ln 1920 the assessed valuatuon ot the dustruct was S2 750000 whuch seems small by comparuson wuth a valuatuon whuch us now un excess of 36 mulluon Durung the comung year the dustruct wull spend approxumately S1 750 000 of whuch over S1 000 000 goes tor teachers salarues A teacher wuth a masters degree now can nualce up to S5 500 . . .F .
