The victory went to the team from Van Buren. Our team was very young and green but showed that they learned fast by taking Jackson-Burgoon on the home field the next week. The score was Z4 to 0. This was our first league encounter. Returning lettermen for the Tigers were: Lynn Sawyer, John Womeldorf, Russ Krotzer, Bernard Lehmann, Glenn Nederhouser, Dean King, Ed Reinhart, and Jerry Aldrich. Traveling to Luckey the next week, we engaged the Trojans of Troy- Luckey. The rain fell and the field grew muddy. We ended up on the short end of a 13 to 6 defeat, for our first league loss. After losing a Z3 to 13 battle at Lakeview, we engaged the tough Montgomery Local team. At the half the score was 0 to 0. fThe rain fell again all day., The Tigers pulled it out in the second half by scoring 19 points to the visitors 0. We then went to the neighboring Bloomdale School. A rough night --We came from behind to win 7 to 6. It was our third league victory. We still had hopes for a tie in the league if we could win the remaining league game and Luckey was beaten in theirs. Our game was with Green Springs which we won by a score of 18 - 8. A TIE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP We had a successful season after all. We closed out the season by winning over Maumee Country Day School 33 to 0, and losing to a big Ottawa Hills 45 to 6. Seniors who played in the last game were, Captain Lynn Sawyer, John Womeldorf, Russ Krotzer, Bernard Lehmann, Ottis Bowe, and Tom Aldrich. A further honor came to us when some members of our team were picked on the all-county teams. On the first team we had, Lynn Sawyer, Russ Krotzer, and Glenn Nederhouser. On the second team were John Womeldorf, Jerry Aldrich, and Dean King. We feel that we, the Tiger football team, have had a very successful football season, and would like to thank all supporters. Our coach, Mr. Russell Fravel, should also receive credit since he masterminded all plays and games. An interesting fact: The Tigers had only 8 points scored on them during all the home stands, and only 27 points scored on them in league play. l EEN AND ATTE DANTS 4631 2 A g at . ,, Q ,, many 1- If msg 5 3352 . s S Seated, left to right: Agnes Strong, Shirley Bovee fQueenJ Standing, left to right: Marjorie Smith, Janet Graber. by . We ended up the season by winning seven out of seven- teen. The team consisted of six seniors, two juniors and four sophomores. Although the team had a not too good season they never gave up in any games. The team was ably backed up by a good crowd of hometown fans, whether at home or away. The team lost some games by a slim margin and the feeling was that the team never really hit their potential. Coach Fravel has been proud of his team and his team has been proud of him all through the season. We were all proud and happy when we played in the consolation game of the Wood County Tournament just missing the finals by losing to Pemberville by one point in the preceding game. We were the first team in six years to advance to the district game s. We thank our fans for their loyal attendance and everybody for their cooperation.
