At first,-her home being in Findlay, she drove to and from school each morning and evening, but now we are'hhppygto have her as a resident of our own community. , We Seniors were Freshmen when she began teaching here. We appreciate very much the time, the help, and the guidance that she has given us during these years. We are fortunate behave such a well-trained teacher as Miss Pletcher with us. She hasfattended Hillsdale College, the University of Michigan, and Ohio State University. She received her A.B. degree at Hillsdale College and her M.A. at the University of Michigan. We wish Miss Pletcher continued success in her chosen work and hope her remaining years at Risingsun High are pleasant ones. EDITORIAL The class of l9Ly9 has taken its place among other graduation classes of Risingsu High. It is now up to us to prove whether or not we are capable of taking an important position in the world. More than ever before young men and women are needed to strenghthen our country: scientists, for furthering advancements in scientific researchg teachers, to build the citizens of tomorrowgstatesmen, engineers, authors, etc. A11 ,prctsesLons' need young men and women with vision that our country may remain the leader in world affairs. But most important of all, we must train for peace. For if we are to save ourselves and the world from destruction there must be no more war. Unless we prepare for peace we will never have it. 1 We may rightly say that upon the sincere efforts of young men and women today rests the fate of the world tomorrow. SCHOOL BOARD Back Row: Mr, G. DOH william! SENIOR WILL We, the Senior Glass will our problems to the Junior Class. Our problems include: finding enough erasers to throw, having people to sell concessions at football and basketball games, trying to think of some way to make moneyy buying enough balloons for everyone in the class to burst, having a class of eager-beavers, having a class loaded with football players and cheerleaders, and above all having a class that gives all the teachers headaches. We, the Senior Class, will our beautiful women and handsome men to the Sophomore Class. We, the Senior Class, will our ambition and stubborness to the Freshman. You can have our seats in the movies, too. I, Paul Stahl, will my nickname, HChubU, to Marjorie Hockenberger. I, Don Correll, will my five daily studyhalls to Jim 'Tigner in order that he might catch up on his sleep. I, Barbara Brewer, will my shyness to Mary Phillips. I, Joe Goudy, will my Ulind H to Edward Onsel, to help play his tuba. I, Helen Warriner, will my high heel shoes to Francis Kreais for playing bas- ketball. A I, Gene White, wil1.my varsity football letters to Willy Gangwer. I, Martha Huffman, will my voice to Duane Correll, I, Derwin Bates, will my fan mail and love notes to Jim Stahl. I, Bernadine Parsons, will my cheerleading shoes to anyone who has feet to fit them. I, Robert Goff, will my safe driving rules to Don Cunningham. I, Marjorie Higley, will my position as drum majorette.to Eddie Moor. I, Pete Mundwiler, will my reservations every noon at the front window to Nor- man Bassett. I I, Virginia Cullison, will my love for all the boys in High School to Cora Chalfin. I, Kenneth Correll, will my title ULover Boyu to Everett Brewer. I, Sara Onsel, will my seat in Physics class with twelve other boys to any girl who is lucky enough to get it. I, Norman Burns, will my Chevie to Mr. Gladieux. I, Gladine Gangwer, will m acquaintances in other towns to Betty Green. Drawn up on the 18th day of May, one thousand nine hundred and forty-nine and hereby, becomes by ratification the last amendment to the constitution of the Slh or Class of nineteen hundred and forty-nine. WITNESSES I 'V , f... 4 , .J life for years just so he could give the people an actual picture of loafing. Say, why didn't I think of that idea? Gladine Gangwer is now the chief popcorn seller at the Roxy Theater in New York. Her popcorn is the silent type--no noise when you eat it. She has become so successful that she is planning to have popcorn stands all over the world. Norman Burns has made a name for himself. He is one of the ad- visors for the National Future Farmers of America. CGirl farmers, that is.I He enjoys it immensely. After all, why shouldn't he? All he does is sit at his desk and women farmers come to him seeking in- formation about crops, livestock, etc. Marsha Miller designs hair styles for movie stars. Marsha makes some beautiful creations but she went too far with the latest hair cut. You ask if the hair is short? I guess so! It is so short that you don't have any left on your head. Gene White is one of the executives of the Chrysler Corp. in Detroit. He wanted to design next year's new car but Chrysler wouldn't let him. He wanted to install a mechanical hand to guide the steering wheel so you could drive with one arm and still h8V8'tN0 hands on the wheel. How clever! Marjorie Higley is a famous artist. She has gained'recognition from famous artists all over the world. Marjorie is married and lives on a farm east of Risingsun, Ohio. She will make her first exhibition in Toledo next month at the Art Museum. It is 2:30 a.m. and I am still reminiscing. L3'television show is over and I haven't noticed it. I have seen HThe Forty-ninersn of the Twentieth Century as they actually are. What could be more ex- citing, realistic, and colorful than that? Sometimes I wish I were back in my high school days with some of m classmates like Gerald Mundwiler. Pete has inherited a million dollars! Pete, although a millionaire, still drives a taxi. He makes daily runs to LaGuardia Field and then hangs a little sign on his door WFemale Passengers Onlyn. No wonder he doesn't retire! You could never guess what has happened to Sara! She started out as a concert pianist. One evening she was getting ready to give one of her best performances when a messenger boy gave her a message which read: Umeet me at 8:00 p.m. on the bridge and we will elopen. Sara was so thrilled she forgot all about her concert and eloped. Sara now has three little Jims. What a catastrophe! Kenneth Correll is manager of the A Cleveland Indians. Recently he was hit in the head with a bat and becam hos- pitalized. There he fell in love with his nurse and married her. I wonder what happened to Bernadine Parsons. The last time I heard of her she had been an airline hostess but they had fired her because every time the plane flew over Wayne, Ohio, she wanted tobai. out. I saw in the paper the other day where Derwin Bates was chosen as America's most eligible bachelor. Derwin always had many female ad- mirers but by the time he built his six-lane highway from England to America he became middle-aged. All work and no play isn't fun. This, Derwin found out. Helen Warriner owns a dog kennel in Risingsun. She raises and sells all kinds of dogs. I asked her if she were married. She winked at me and replied, UMW husband would lead too much of a dog's lifeu. Don Correll has just finished a book entitled WThe Art ofloaf- ingn. It said in the author's note that he had lived this kind of CLASS PROPHECY I am going to enjoy my television set this evening. There is a variety show called UThe Forty-niners of the Twentieth Centuryu which sounds very interesting. That makes me think of m classmates for that is the year our class graduated from high school. When I think of m classmates I immediately think of Robert Goff. Robert owns a Chevrolet garage in Risingsun. He still owns a beauti- ful farm and enjoys the life of a farmer. He has won many honors with his registered cows. Virginia Cullison has done very well. She is now Mrs. Herman Slapsaddle, an exquisite fashion designer. Her latest design is call- ed the WRising Lookn. This dress has a black jumper, a white blouse, and an orange bow. Those colors blend beautifully together. Her idea must be very original. I still correspond with Paul Stahl. Paul is a professional wres- tler and is known as UChubweightH. He has won several of his bouts and is thinking of retiring. He has a wife and nine children. .That's enough to keep any man busy. Barbara Brewer is married and living in England. When she first visited this country, she met Prince Charles. He requested that she become his nursemaid so she remained in England. Joe Goudy is happy as the president of an exclusive girls school in Winter Yard, Florida. Joe has learned how to get up in the morn- ings. -He invented a water sprinkling alarm clock. He needed that when we were Seniors. Martha Huffman is a housewife. She has such a darling family! She sings songs for every wedding and funeral in Risingsun. She is the leader of the church choir. Who did she marry? Silly people! SENIOR HISTORY In September of 1957 thirty-one little first graders got their first taste of school life and set their eyes on a goal, which they will have reached when each one is handed a diploma on May 18, 1949. The new part of the school had just been completed when we entered school, and we were broken in together. For every scratch or scar left on the walls of the new uannexn one was left with us, because our twelve years of education didn't come without troubles, worries, or hard work. We are quite different from the original thirty-one in our class. Many moved away and dropped out, and many other new students re- placed them, so now there are eighteen nForty-ninersn left. Like the nForty-ninersu of a century vago, we were searching for a treasure, and we have found it.' This past year, out of the eighteen in our class, eight received football letters five received basketball letters, four are F.H.A. members, three are F.F.A. members, and four are cheerleaders. We are the nForty-ninersn of the 20th century. We set out in search of gold and found much during our twelve years. Now we have our eyes set on another goal, an even richer vein of treasure somewhere in the mountains ahead of us. We are sure we will find it because our motto says, nThis Far and Fartherv, and we believe it! After Christmas Karen Dunn came from the Kansas School and Mike Toddcame from the Fostoria Schools. Reading has been the great adventure of the year. Books from the reading table have been a great pleasure. These books are taken from the table the first thing in the morning before school opens, and will be taken home later for home reading. Grade II There are thirty-seven pupils in the class of l9h8-19b9, twenty-one boys and sixteen girls. They have participated in several programs this year and have contrubuted very well to the P. T. A. Membership Drive, lOOZ.JHBihT? tRed Cross Lkmbership, Clothes for Children Overseas, March of Dimes and the Easter Gift Box. Grade'III There are thirty-three pupils in the third grade this 'year. There are boys and girls who attended first grade in Gibsonburg, Arlington, Fostoria, West Millgrove, Rollersville, Cygnet, and Harrod, Ohio, , 153, gnklgnd had twenty in the first grade, and lbs. Bower had twenty-eight in the second grade at Risingsun. The group appeared in the HNativity Playn at Christmalatime and at the Community Institute in January. Grade IV We, grade four of l9h8el9h9, have an enrollment of 'twentyueight ppupils, eleven boys and seventeen girls. Fifteen of our present number are chapter members of the class. AS we entered grade four we left the primary depart- ment of our school and assumed the responsibilities of intermediates. we are really growing up. Grade V Twenty-seven children enrolled in fifth grade at the beginning of the school year. About the first of the second semester two more pupils were add- ed, making a total of twenty-nine pupils. Fourteen of these youngsters The- gan school life together in the first grade. Activities of the grade 'are varied. Several of the group show above average ability in .music. Their favorite sport is basketball. Grade VI Sixth grade is the envy of all teachers who have large classes. Our enrollment is just twenty-three pupils which makes it possible to have many extra activities and class projects. A Citizenship Club has been organized in Sixth grade and a Magazine Sales was conducted to raise money for a school project. The sales netted 3S2.00. The Citizenship Club is attempting 'to build up pride in the care of school property by teaching pupils of Risingsun School to be less careless in throwing refuse and waste paper about. We hope to purchase a dbrable, weatherproof refuse container which can be placed on the school grounds. It is our hope that such a container will help to promote better care of school property. ,Y f 8+ 1 K' ,Wh .W,A . gm ig, it A ' 1.211 wi 1 i- F' ,wxleln ,H , Y X11 . rw .,...-A, .,.
