FRESHMAN CLASS FRONT ROW: Sitting: Nancy Dias, Laverne Jackson, Pam Sanderson, Liz Leitch, Carol Raymond BACK ROW: Standing: Tom Parkinson, Madeline Chaleff, Sue Herold, Lili Schroeder, Jim Kinney, fPres.J Tom Harmon, fVice Pres.J Sylvia Szokolay, CSec.j Betty O'Neil, fTres.J David Gaines CAdvisorJ Mr. Tarzia FRE SHMAN CLASS HISTORY When the Class of 1979 entered Rippowam, we were acknowledged as being the largest Freshman Class enrolled in the thirteen-year history of the school. But regardless of our size, we students were very much characteristic of every new group that has entered the senior high school. The first week was spent wandering the halls: white schedules in one hand and a brown bag lunch yet to be stored in some distant locker, in the other. Soon-to-be-recognized class advisors were Mr. Tarzia and Miss Martino, who organized our first student government. We elected Tom Harmon, Sylvia Szokolay, David Gaines, and Betty O'Neill to guide us as officers. We administered the traditional fundraising project of selling World's Finest Candy Bars. Chocolate munching became a popular tirst period pastime for many. There was also a new world record set for second period stomach aches . . . Other activities throughout the year benefited our savings account, but more importantly, they provided us with a sense of class unity. There were so many good times and future memories for everyone. Now we can look forward to our sophomore year which will furthermore help us to declare that the Class of '79 is something special. 114
