As you look on the following pages, we hope to bring to you the memories, hopes, and smiles that each and every one of you had during the '56 school year. We are not trying to give you an expensive book, but rather a hook that, during the years to come, you will grow to treasure. If, in later years, while turning the pages, you should recall many memories, we shall be con- tent, knowing we have done a good job. The graduating class of 1956 would like to thank the Board of Trustees for their advice and patience during the past four years. Without their help and guidance, we don't think this class and Ripon Union High School could be of the high caliber that they are. So, to the Board of Trustees, our humble thanks and gratitude. CLASS OF 1956 MRS. The recent favorable vote on the bonds for new buildings at Ripon High School indicates that the community has faith in its young people, and I am sure that the students of Ripon High justify that faith. Congratulations to theeditor, his staff, the advisor of this 1956 '6lVlission, and to the senior class for their participation in all phases of a successful four years of endeavor. V OTIS M. KINGERY Principal Under the adept leadership of Student Body President Marvin Veneman and Advisor Ernest Poletti, the Student Government com- pleted another successful year. After Marvin's nomination he appointed his cabinet and his court, and got right down to business. Congressmen were elected from each class and added to the betterment of the school by passing laws and helping to enforce them. The Supreme Court took care of all infractions of the laws of the school and tried all such cases. Hard Work, fun, and tradition are the things which tell the story of the Class of 1956. We began as all freshmen classes do, by forgetting which rooms to go to, missing the bus and running to the office for guidance. Introduction to extra cur- ricular activities came with our initiation by the Sophomore class. Having completed our first year, in September of 1953 we again returned to the now-familiar corridors for a year of intense study and enjoyable recreation. ln 1954 as Juniors, our learning continued and our money-raising ventures were numerous. Our efforts were not in vain, for we presented a 'highly successful junior-senior prom at the Del Rio Country Club in Modesto. In 1956 the world was our oyster. We were caught in a swirl of senior activity. Sports played an important part in our senior lives. We had a highly successful football season, and the same was true with basketball and baseball. We were all involved in the music department and we helped to present an unforgettable Christmas Concert and an equally good Spring Concert. Senior Ditch Day was an occasion never to be forgotten. Equally memorable were the senior banquet and breakfast. We Will, in the years to come, set apart from all others the memories gathered at Ripon High School. We Will think about the hard Work, the fun and the tradition and feel sincerely that these were four of the best years of our lives. Included in our projects were various pastry sales, an all-day car wash, a booth in the Com- munity Carnival and two dances. Being Juniors, it was our privilege to sponsor the annual King and Queen. race and also the dance that accompanies it. Our candidates, Gary Hall and Joellen Franzia, evidenced our good taste by winning the contest. Helping us weather the first semester storm were class officers Tom Brown, presi- dent, Joellen Franzia, vice president, Vickie Franscella, secretary. Completing the second semester as class officers were president, Andy Gavinog vice president, John Franziag and secretary, Vicki Franscella. Our really big event was the J unior-Senior Prom held this year in Stockton. Thus having safely completed a hectic year, the Junior class is even more grateful for our advisors, Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Thistlethwaite, and Mrs. Livingston. la Samara Oogczew 2.14 Semuza Ogfeww Standing: Tom Brown, Joellen Franzia. Through hard work and careful planning the initiation of the freshmen was one of our most exciting and successful events. Its memories will no doubt be with us for quite some time. Also circled on our calendar of events were the dances we sponsored and our class skating party. Our money-making projects consisted of a cake-walk and hat-day, and candy sales and dances. Representing our class in the annual king and queen race were Clarence Winters and Lorine Ostini. Under the guidance of our advisors, Mrs. Rampoldi and Mr. Azevedo, these events helped to make our Sophomore year here at Ripon High a successful and memorable one. lcd Semedm Uffcbow Zonal Semeatez Offccoze Left to rlght Gene Sinarle, June Olmo, Ruby Smith. When the Mission went to press, the Debate squad was nearing the end of another successful year. Four major tournament sweepstakes victories had been scored at Stockton, Sacra- mento, Merced, and the College of the Pacific, the Ripon High representative had scored the zone title in the annual Lions Club Contest, and two debate teams had qualified for the state play-off. A contributing factor to the teamls success was the fact that a three-year cycle had been culminated and there were fourteen competing seniors on the squad. Although next year is the beginning of a new cycle, there will be a few seasoned competitors aboard. -ww. 511411 Q1 9' 2 3 f S , 1 ,. i f Viifif if -Q gffe :ff ' J g -Q if fl KEEQ aes v 5555515 Wei? ne. 2' Us, , Af 2 - f , ., t if A 45 ..
