To you we would say, Thank you, Mr. Stouffer, for the innumerable times you've counseled us regarding our present and future, and for your tireless efforts that we might be helped even in the slightest way. Your past has made Ripon High, and though you are leaving us, the memory of all that you have done will remain imprinted in our hearts. The inadequacy of words prevents us from putting on paper all that you have done. So, Mr. Ripon High, all that we can say is, Thank you. X E Photograph of the School ......,,.,... The extent to which a small school is able to win distinction in many fields and be acknowledged as a leader is determined by the degree the faculty, the students and parents work together. Ripon has long been known as a small school that does things in a big way. This can continue lust as long as all groups work and cooperate together. STUDE T GOVER ME T The student government under advisor Mr. Ernest Poletti and President Frank Franzia com- pleted a successful T954-T955 school year. Farnk Franzia was elected by the student body to head our government as President. Since our government is patterned after the Federal Gov- ernment, he appointed people to the offices of Vice President, Secretary of Records, Secretary of Entertainment, Secretary of Notifications, Secre- tary of Rallys, Chief Justice, Chief of Police, Bail- iff, the Supreme Court, Prosecuting Attorney, and Defense Attorney. Each month a congress meeting was held. Dur- ing these meetings, bills were introduced, if considered beneficial to the student body, they were passed. The congress passed a bill which narrowed down the enforcement body to only people se- lected by the President. This bill did away with the tickets which were given for spite and was proven satisfactory. Mr. Ernest Poletti, Advisor, and Frank Franzia President. For instance, if you were in band, those wonderful days of marching and parading will always be in your mind. lf you liked sports there are the memories of football, basketball, baseball, and track seasons. When we entered as Freshmen, those locker combinations didn't always work. Some of us didn't even know where to go for the next class. Through all this mix-up and chaos we had a happy-go-lucky Freshman-Sophomore Brawl. We also had skating parties that will not be forgotten quickly. At last we were Sophomores and no longer little guys. This year we gave an initiation party for the incoming Freshmen, and Oh! what a time that was. Our Junior year came and we were big stuff. That year we sponsored the King and Queen Dance and parade, with our King and Queen as winners. We went to work with cake and pie sales practically every other day, for the prom was coming up. The prom day arrived and we enjoyed a wonderful time at the Hotel Covell in Modesto. At last we are High and Mighty Seniors, with days when there is nothing to do but skip classes. Finally Senior ditchday came, and off we went to Yosemite. Our class had an exciting time with never a dull moment. Then came that unforgettable graduation with its dinner and parties. Although the Senior Class has had many good times together, a great deal of credit must go to our advisors Miss Dora Jane Perry and Mr. Ervin DeSelle. We hope they enioyed all these treasured moments with us. The Senior Class wishes to express their hopes that the coming students of Ripon will have as many laughs and wonderful times to remember as the class of '55. We also want to express our, Thanks to Mr. Stouffer and to the whole faculty for being so patient with such a trying class. 3 X S RY MR ERVIN DE SELLE Kneeling: Freda- Rasmussen. They started the year off right by selling programs at the football games. The various committees for the programs were chosen and did their duties well. The project was a great success and provided a neat profit for the class. Many of the members of the class partici- pated in the various activities offered at Ripon High, andthe student body and faculty agreed that the class was a valuable asset to the school. The first semester officers were President, Ralph Sand, Vice President, Vaughn Medford, Secretary, Christine Castleman. Second semes- ter: President, Wayne Mize, Vice President, Bob Shirley, and Secretary, Lorene Ostini. DEBATE Predictions at the beginning of the season gave two sweepstakes to the intermediate debate squad this year. They were so termed because thirteen of the thirty-two competitors were newcomers to the field. But hard work, a love for victory, and close teamwork enabled the debaters to overcome this handicap and prove the forecasts false. In the first tournament at Modesto, Ripon placed second in the race for high honors. The three succeeding tourneys credited Ripon with sweepstakes in both A and B divisions. When the Mission went to press the debate squad was headed for continued success. Yes, the individual and sweepstakes trophies earned during this school season definitely proved the predictions untrue. Under the experienced guidance of Coach Ernest Poletti, the squad had an excellent year and hopes for an even better one in '56, F First row, left to right: Joellen Franzia, Cheryl Hagenow, Marilyn Vieira, Connie Hughes, Connie Barela, Arline Ostini, Janice Vander Laan, Mr. Ernest Poletti, Advisor. The organization participated in parades, football games, festivals, and two concerts during the school year. During the 1954 football season we performed unusual stunts after hours of endless practice. ln October we added to our collection a trophy for third place in the C.O.P. Homecoming Parade. The following week we represented Ripon High at the University of California in a mass band half-time performance. The annual Christmas Concert was a big suc- cess because of the hard work by the students and the director. Because each individual did his share, the Spring Concert was also successful. ln May the time came for the band to attend the State Festival in San Jose. The Mission went to press before results of this affair could. be re- corded. This past year was a tremendous success because of the cooperation of the band members and the time and effort put in by our director, Mr. Ernest Azevedo. I 46 DAYLE BAILEY The Warriors started the football season with high hopes for championship. However, injuries and tough opposition made this ambition impossible to achieve. Frank Franzia and Dave Zellmer represented the team at the All-Star Football Banquet in Modesto. At the football banquet awards were given to Dave Eckhoff and Dave Zellmer for outstanding linesmen and to Frank Franzia for the most valuable backfield man. Our boys didn't get the championship, but in the opinion of everyone at Ripon High they truly deserve the highest praise for their season's performance.
