A Lull In The Apathy — Great Hall was packed to the rafters for Air Guitar. The Merrimen took their second con- secutive first place in the contest. Below are other groups that made it to the finals. Sue Kramer performs What are you trying to do to my heart? with the Theta Sigma Tau air band. The Lads from Liverpool (Bill Burgess. Gary Judson. Dave Taylor, and Rich Gee) had to fight off hordes of adoring groupies” during “She Loves You” and 1 Want to Hold Your Hand. Black and Blues brothers Steve Harris and K. Patrick Yarborough (who is not pictured) got the audience moving with Shout! 28

Silver Lake Thwarts Redwomen Hopes A bigger and better team was what head coach Elaine Coll called the 1982-83 women’s basketball team. But such a team was needed as they faced a tougher schedule than they have in past years. Coll looked to the leadership of seniors Barb Williams, Janice Heinz, Donna Crocker, and Liz O’Brien as well as other returnees such as Mary Neice. Kelly Manis, and Amy Barnes. Coll also counted on support from Patti Keene, Marsha Steffeck. and freshmen Shari Piehl, Jennifer Thomas. Connie Kempen. and Rachel (FVL??????) Mathison. Four games into the season, the Redwomen held a 3-1 record. In the opener against Lakeland, Ripon came out ahead 58-54. A 71-53 victory was on tap for the following evening against Edgewood. Edgewood was to suffer another loss to the Redwomen after the Christmas break, but this time by a much greater Margin. At the buzzer Ripon led 65-25. After defeating Beloit 67-49, the Redwomen set their sights on Silver Lake in a game that would more or less decide whether they would advance to tournament play. A game against Lawrence was all that stood between Ripon and the Silver Lake challenge. The Vikings were put down 61-47 before Silver Lake shot tournament hopes for Ripon in a hard-fought game, 72-62. Shari Piehl completed the season with 305 points, breaking Barb Williams old record of 243 in a single season. Barb Williams completed a fine career at Ripon just 34 points shy of the 4-year record of 762 held by 1980 grad Lisa Heimler. 27

The snow was going fast, but there was enough to slide on in the annual tug-of-war. So it’s a $45 fine if you take things out of the commons.
