Kicking Up A Storm-Women’s Soccer With the combined leadership of senior Kati Wanik and alum Barbara Scott, the 1982 women’s soccer team proved to be much improved. Although their schedule was slim, the kickers were happy with the season. Results of the 3 games were a 3-0 loss with a 3-1 loss to Beloit and a 2-0 loss to a tough Lawrence club. Key players on this year’s club were Wanik, sophs. Mary Neice and Moira Duffey, and frosh Robyn Hardt. The team’s only goal came from frosh Connie Kempen. Men’s Team Finishes In Second Place The 1982 men’s soccer team finished a successful season with a 8-3-1 record. Key players for the ’83 kickers were soph. Bo Safrang, seniors Randy Pufahl and Kip Love, frosh Jay Brennan, and co-captains Greg Bolin and Gary Page. Fan support, hard work on the part of the team, and the dedication of coach Dave Scott were credited for the success. t I I t ’82-’83 Women Ruggers Encounter Tough Schedule Despite a slim schedule, The 1983 Women’s Rugby Team gained ground this year in what is traditionally an all- male sport. Led by president Juli Welk and organizer Carol Wattleworth, the ruggers comprised a 0-3 record in the fall, but ended the season with a score of vet- erans who will be ready to play next fall. Among them are Welk. Michou Braun, Nadine Kingston, Bonnie Koss, Bren Schultz, freshmen Laura Mullins, Jill Overdorf, Alicia Howland, Ginger Cos- tello, and Joan Baumgartner, and junior Donna Reardon. The team made a powerful showing against Illinois State before facing the strong scrum of the University of Ste- vens Point. The Redmen lost that game 8-4. Their final game of the season went to the University of Illinois-a 24-0 deci- sion.
