You may have missed him since he was kept under wraps for most of his visit, but we had a celebrity in our midst this Homecoming. A1 Jarreau. singer and composer, was back for his 20-year class reunion. His contract wouldn’t let him sing for us, but he made an exit fit for a star. A helicopter landed in lower Sadorff to fly him to the World Series in Milwaukee where he led The National Anthem. The Rcdmcn overcame strong winds and numb fin- gers to beat the previously undefeated Lake Forest team. Parade, No Dance, But We Won Confirmed rowdies from Top. Spikers Do It Again If it's possible to improve on the best. Ripon's volleyball team succeeded this season. Last year, when the Red wo- men won the conference and fin- ished 19-3 overall head coach Elaine Coll said she had coached her best team ever.” Coll feels that the 1982 spikers were even better. On Saturday. October 30. Ripon won the Wisconsin Inde- pendent Colleges-Women's Ath- letic Conference tournament held at Wyman Gym and finished the season 16-3 overall. The Redwomen entered that tournament with a perfect.8-0 mark in WIC-WAC play. The tournament featured the top two teams from the Northern and Southern Divisions. Ripon topped Concordia College 3-1 in the first of the best of five matches — ral- lying to win from a 4-12 deficit in the fourth game to close out the Match. Next. Ripon blasted pre- viously unbeaten Mount Mary in three straight, before meeting arch-rival St. Norbert in the final match The Redwomen bested the Green Knights for the fourth time to date, winning three straight. Coll was really proud” of the team after the tournament; All year we worked together. she added, but we played some of the best volleyball we've played all year.” The spikers opened their sea- son in a triangular in DePere.
