Outlaws Win Intramural Football Championships The Mcrrimen were down by one. Quarterback Steve Johannes had a first and goal situation at the two yard line. The ball was snapped, a scramble was made for the football, and the Outlaws stopped the Mcrrimen at their goal line. And “that was all she wrote for the Mernmen as the Outlaws defeated the first-place Phi Kappa Pi team 14-13 in the final game of the 1982 fall intramural football season. Key members of the Out- laws who played in sub-zero temperatures before a crowd of thousands were Quarterback Dave Ja Jewski. Todd Duval, and Jim Mendyke. Members of Mcrrimen included Quarterback Steve Johannes. Full- back Gary Morrow, and Wide Receivers Rich Shep- pard and Jim Johnson. Mike Purdy, coach of Mcrrimen. was quoted as say- ing. Although Mcrrimen seemed to dominate throughout the season. Outlaws were able to slop Steve Johannes and the infamous power sweep” to win the championship in the end. Gridders Defeat Lawrence And Clinch Midwest Conference Title Conference Record Goes Unvarnished After losing the first two games of the season by a total of three points. the Rtpon College Rcdmen came on strong with eight straight wins to capture the division and conference titles. With a 16-14 win over Cornell, the pigskinncrs became the Midwest Conference champions after beating arch-rival Lawrence 23-20 the week before. The road to victory was not an easy one for the Rcdmen. who were 7-2 on the season. The first game of the season took the gridders to Whitewater where they were defeated 22-20. The following week they traveled to Plaitoville and returned after suffering a 21-20 loss. The Rcdmen hosted Monmouth on Parent's Day and walked away with an im- pressive 35-20 victory. The next five weeks were filled with excitement as the team moved closer and closer to their prized Northern Division Championship. The Redmen downed Coe. St. Norbert. Lake Forest (24-0 before a packed Homecoming crowd). The team held the Foresters to only 13 total rushing yards in that game. Tim White carried the ball 43 times for 232 yards and two touchdowns as the team killed the University of Chicago 54-0. The Redmen went on to defeat Beloit before beating arch-rival Lawrence 23-20 for the division title. The final step was the game against Cor- nell. Pictures, from top. Judy Koehler and Clare Miller dressed up In the school spirit for the parade. The Bartlett Beauties hope alumni will help them fend off the wrecking ball from one of the oldest campus buildings.
