We are like knights seeking For some goal, just as Sir Launfal did in quest ofthe Grail. Here we are learning and striving For something. We are developing not only mentally and physically, but also socially and spiritually. The years spent at Ripon Christian High will never be Forgotten and when we have reached our goal-whatever God has in store For us-we will realize more and more what rewarding years these have been. We, the Senior Class, are honored and privileged to present the '53 Lance. We have portrayed to you all of our activities, and we hope that as you page through this book, the panorama of events shown to you, will give you an ever clearer picture of our ad ventures at Ripon Christian High. Message l Mr. Van Vuren TO THE GRADUATES It is not strange that you have chosen as the theme of the Lance the subject of ad- venture. Bold and courageous deeds have their special appeal to young minds. As a matter of fact, the love Foradventure is not limited to a certain age nor to any particular place. It is universal even as life itself. The blind Greek poet, Homer, has preserved for all time a record of theadventures of Ulysses in The Iliad and the Odyssey , read and enioyed by young and old alike. And who has not read and chuckled over the adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckle- berry Finn? A book which is full of unusual but real adventure, althoughallegorically portrayed, is Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. In this book the hero is Christian, who faces real dan- gers on his iourney to the City of God. His courage, too, is unusual but real, born of a faith and trust in God and His Word. The apostle Paul experienced life as essentially a fight, not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual powers of evil. There never was a dull moment in his life, and at the end of it he could say, l have fought the good fight, I have kept the faith. Ripon Christian High has sought to help you see life as Paul saw it, as God sees it. May you Find your most satisfying adventure in faithful service as a soldier in the army of God. That is our parting hope and prayer For you, class of '53. Mr. Diephuis Mr. Van Vuren Mr. Ubels Mrs. de Boer Mr, Hoek Teachers Our faculty at Ripon Christian High is small but very well chosen. Our staff con- sists of Fine instructors. Sometimes the great task of a teacher is overlooked. Of all the tasks in the world, that of the teacher is the most constructively influential. The teacher is the one that leads us on as we venture Forth in life. It is theteacherwho helps Form character and personality, who helps develop abilities and ambitions, and who helps impart aspirations and ideals. ' But the temple the teacher builded Will last while the ages roll, For that beautiful unseen temple ls the child's immortal soul. Classes Mr. W. Diephuis Typing Mrs. C. de Boer Sewing Mr. M. We have climbed many steps, experienced ioyful as well as difficult situations, but have finally reached the top. The class of 53 is larger than any other class that has graduated from Ripon Christian High. Only four of our class of seventeen are not twelve year students. As a group, we have participated in many school activities such as plays, athletics, and solo and group singing. We have seta record as being the only class that has had the highest number of Lance sales for three years in suc- cession. Our education during these past twelve years has by no means been pro- fitless, but has helped us reach maturity, socially, spiritually, intellectually and economically, so that we, by the grace of God, are better able to travel the road of life which lies ahead.
