SOPHOMORE CLASS Ivlr Cansler was elected as our sponsor Nora Lee Blankenshzp Presrdent Marlon Carter Vxce Presxdent Lodlene Etherrdge Secretary Shrrley Overby Reporter Bernard Brown Roy Emonds and Neal Ban I-looser are new members of our class Almost all of our class partzcrpate m elther basketball or band Joan Stephenson won second place mn the band queen contest On December 15 we had a party at Lodrene Etheridge s home Everyone had a grand tune Then on January 5 we had a supper m the Home Economrcs Departznent We had frled Chlcken roast Venslon wxth all the trxmmmgs Every one really did eat Too bad there was a basketball game the mght after We have shown unprovement m our geometry this flrst semester and hope to keep up the good work Mr McCann IS proud of us We hope One day m Englrsh Mrs Wrlhams on was readmg the defuntron of tentlcles of a Jellyflsh, and she told us that the tentacles are used the way we use our noses All of a sudden we heard a snort It was Corky demonstratmg the use of his nose Mrs Wrlhamson sard she would have to glve hrm an A for domg more than was requlred of hlm We wonder 1f she really w1l1 FRESHNIEN The freshman class of 1948 started m the year wrth 32 members We have gamed exght new members over last year and have lost two We have a class meetmg September 8 1948 and our Preszdent of last year Donald Twoguns called xt to order We elected Leo Goodenough Pres1dent Author Daughtery V1ce Presrdent Beverly Newport Secretary and Treasurer Sarah Savory Class Reporter and Lola Mae Jones Busmess Manager For our class motto we selected Green but Growmg class colors green and whrte and our flower IS exther the red or white rose Amce Howerton was our candidate for band queen Mr McCann rs our sponsor Our second class meetmg was held September 20 1948 We made plans for a class party whxch we had October Z1 1948 We drew names for Chrxstmas and had a lovely Chrzstmas party We as the members of the Freshman Class of 1948 1949 mtend to make the best of everythmg BASKETBALL OF 48 49 The year of 48 49 m Basketball fmds the school spmnt as well as the tearn splrxt one of the outstandrng traxts of the year Members of the teams are proud of thls year record 111 the number of games won and lost The Boys have won seven and lost three The Girls have won elght and lost two The members are Betty Jean Broyles Betty Flxck Betty Lomse Coonts, Bertha Gnmm Sarah Morgan M1111e Rose Stollmgs Lola Mae Jones Evelyn Grxmm Annabell Potts Vxrgmra Buckles and Vwnan Hadley Rlchard Mmmx Max Lee Mrhura James Lozxer Bobby Kmzxe, Claud Hxlton Gary Wmlson Huel Matheson James Casey, Lang Allen Wxlson and David Mlhura. FIFTH GRADE, HISTORY The Flfth Grade Class presented a skxt The Flrst Thanksgwmg November Z3 1948 at the school program glven before the Ple and Box Supper Every member of the class took part There were Indlans a forest Tee pees Pxlgrxms the Mayflower and a modern home rn whlch the story was told GRADE NEWS The flrst four grades of Rrpley School enrolled pupzls in the fall of 1948 Mrs Vlolet Merrlll as flrst grade teacher Mrs Florence Love as second Mrs Mlldred Rxckstrew as thlrd and Mrs Lmvoma Seaman as fourth In October each group enjoyed a Hallowe en party and a spook parade These grades part1c1pated m the all school program whlch was gxven m November At the Chrlstmas season each group decorated xts room and 1ts Chrxstmas tree Naxnes were drawn and gxfts exchanged The four grades presented the op The groups plan to part1c1pate zn two other all school programs durzng the year The sprmg act1v1t1es w11l mclude a Valentme Party and an Easter egg hunt for each group 4 H CLUB The Rlpley 4 H Club was orgamzed the second week m September of 1948 The offzcers elected were Lang W11son Preszdent Rlchard M1nn1x Vlce Pres ldent Nora Lee Blankenshlp Secretary and Treasurer We also elected a Re porter Game Leader and Song Leader who are Harold Eaton John Lxston and B111 Van Busklrk respectxvely The club chapter won second on their booth m addxtlon to the numerous rxbbons and awards won at the County Fan-s and at the Amencan Royal m Kansas C1ty We feel thls has been our most successful year wmth a total en rollment of 59 boys and girls coached by Mrs Wnlrna Glbbs and Mr D J McCann We hope to have as successful a year m 1949 1950 as we have had rn 1948 1949 Z7 . . , ,, . . . ,, on eretta, The Magic Christrnas Bell , at the school Christmas program.
