SENIOR CLASS NE WS The Semor Class of 1949 started the year off wzth a grand start wxth Z1 members For our sponsor we chose Mrs Ralnwater After choosxng our spon sor we began to choose our class officers as follows Presxdent Orvel Mc Laughlm V1ce Presldent Rlchard Mmmx, Secretary Della Lewis Treasurer B111 Potts Reporter Elreath McKaughan In our class meetmg of November 5 w elected Kenneth Klutsenbaker to take B111 Potts place as treasurer as B111 won be with us next semester Later m the year we gaxned Grace Matteson from Perkms and Ronald Wxtcher from Rocky Durmg the year one of our members Shxrley Adams changed her name to Morgan but she plans to fxmsh the year wxth us Our fxrst party was gwen to us by our sponsor Mrs Raxnwater We chose our class colors to be blue and sflver We chose the gardema for our class flower We chose The Darkest Night The World Has Ever Known D1d Not Put Out The Stars for our motto Later we had another party at Mrs Ramwater s home We played games and had a wonderful tune We served bar be cuedsandwxches cookxes potato chips and apples for refreshments We had a Christmas supper at lvlrs Ramwater s house on Tuesday mght before Chrxstrnas Durmg the day the Senior girls worked preparing for the supper Our menu consxsted of frred chicken mashed potatoes hot rolls butter waldorf salad cranberry salad fruit Jello and cupcakes We were served on card tables wxth candy canes for our place cards We then exchanged gifts sang and played games The Senior Class presented Mrs Ramwater wlth an electrmc broiler whrch was very much apprecxated Thxs has been one of our best partxes The Annual Band Queen Contest was held thxs year Betty Jean Broyles our candzdate won the contest We raised S51 70 by selhng tzckets on a blanket and proud to have Teddy Stemcamp as the Drum Major of the Band Other members of our class part1c1patmg rn the band are Betty Coonts Elreath McKaughan V1r g1n1a Buckles Shxrley Adarns and John Lxston We are very happy to have Betty Coonts Betty Broyles Bertha Grlmm Vzrguua Buckles Max Mxhura James Lozmer and Rzchard Mmnrx on the I-hgh School Basketball Team We have 6 glrls rn the F I-LA this year Betty Coonts Betty Broyles Shmrley Adams Elreath McKaughan and Vzrgmxa Buckles Neal Swrsher Harold Eaton John Llston and Rxchard Mmnxx are m the Ripley 4 H Club On October 29th the Semor Class served the Alurnnx Banquet For our decoratzons on the table, we used pumpkins acorns leaves of varrous colors and candles We also decorated wlth black and orange colors For the covers of the programs we used haystacks wzth pumpkms on them The tradntzonal Hal loween napkms were used The menuwas bar be cued sandwzches with all the trmmmmgs Our rmgs tlus year are plam colored gold and rectangular m shape We are very proud of them as well as our plctures whlch we recewed October 17 In the spr1ng we gave the great I-hllbrlly play The Carnpbells Are Commg The cast are as follows Ma Betty Coonts Catalpa Elreath McKaughan Betty Betty Broyles Dxck John Lxston Baldad Harold Eaton Cyrus Neal Swrsher Jeff Max lvhhura Kaye Bertha Grxmm Kmgston Kenneth Klutsenbaker Augusta Ruth Wray lt was a great success 9 . : . , - .
