Track Team of the Year 'I946-47 . J T gs 4 ,I 1' ,.,, A -riff, gm ,l Ripley High School won the championship in the first Big Ten Track and Field Meet held here since the war at lrvin Knee Field in May l947. First place in the mile relay was won by the Ripley relay team, composed of Thomas Peter Jones, Harold Smith, Grover Crowder and Dearl Halfacre. Thomas Jones won first place in the shot put, Dearl Halfacre the 200-yard low hurdles, Harold Smith the javelin throw, Milton McMahan the pole vault, and Jimmy Wyatt the 880- yard run and the mile. Winning second places were: Dan Lucas in the broad lump, Thomas Jones in the lOO-yard dash and the javelin throw, Grover Crowder in the 220-yard dash, Harold Smith in the shot put, Nor- fleet Anthony in the 200-yard low hurdles, and Tom Frank Fowler in the 440-yard dash. Dan Lucas took third place in the lOO-yard dash, Thomas Jones in the 220, and Guy Henderson and Milton McMahan in the high jump Ca tiel. ln the West Tennessee Track Meet held in Memphis the Ripley track men were superior to opposing teams from schools the size of Ripley High, scoring points to place fourth in the big meet. At Crump Stadium Harold Smith took second place in the javelin throw, Jimmy Wyatt fourth in the mile, and Thomas Peter Jones took fourth place in both the discus and shot put. 0 65
