I f O . pu--9' ' A ' Tommy Caldwell ,IMI Ryan Miller Thomas Jones Harold Smith ln the first game of the season Humes overpowered Ripley 32-7. Considerably outweighed and short on reserves, the Tigers were unable to cope with the strong Humes team. Jones ran 76 yards to score for Ripley on a pass from Fowler and also added the extra point. Taking advantage of breaks, the Paris Blue Devils de- feated Ripley 33-l9. The score at the half was tied, but again Ripley's lack of reserves proved to be a deciding factor as several key Tigers were injured. By a touchdown and extra point scored in the first quar- ter, Bartlett won over Ripley 7-O. Miller, substituting for Jones on end, showed up well in the Ripley line, as did Rainey, regular Tiger center. The Ripley Tigers showed their power by tramping Cov- ington 39-O. The game was full of passes and long runs. Miller raced 49 yards to a touchdown with a pass from Smith. Duggan was stopped on the lO after a 25-yard run. Two touchdowns by Jones, one by Smith, and a blocked punt added the other points. Though bowing by a score of I2-O, Ripley's defensive power was displayed when twice they held the strong Dyers- burg Trojans on the one-yard line. Dyersburg's scoring began in the second quarter with a field goal. 60
