Three of their ten CAL losses were by a mere two points. A few breaks and the outcome might have been different. However the surprising Riordan cagers, hampered by height and inexperience all season, did manage to make their presence felt before the final gun sounded. Among Rudy Zannini's charges eleven victories was a stunning upset over a powerful St. Joseph's team which threw them into a tie for the round robin crown with 0'Dowd. Riordan's 64-52 conquest of St. Elizabeth delayed the Mustang's playoff hopes a week and it took a special playoff game with Bellarmine to determine the fourth team in the finals. The Crusaders' fast break offense centered on the all- around play of Senior guard Bob Young, one of the top scorers in Northern Cal., along with Senior center Rich Holmberg, Junior forwards Kev Eagleson and Kev Gon- salves and Junior guard Frank Reginato. 78

SEASON Although the Junior Varsity's l-7 record was somewhat disappointing, Steve Dovis's gridders did show some signs of good potential, The offense centered around the hardnosed running of Sophomore half- back Bob Von Esmarch and the pass- ing of signal-caller John Maxwell to flanker Mike Parodi, chosen the most valuable player on the team. FROSH SEASON This year's Frosh football team fin- ished the season with a 3-3 record. Victories came over such C.A.L. schools as St. Mary's and St. Francis. Quarterback Mark Alimeses led o fine backfield which featured the line- backing of Jim Walsh and Ralph Fon- seca. Tackle Bob Gestra bulwarked the front line.
