Senior John Morello and company return punt 67 yards for winning TD at Santa Rosa. Wingback Jim Mallon sprints for l7 yards on a double reverse against St. Francis. Senior signal-caller John Vignas skirts Bellarmine's right end for five yards, Morello noses past Serra defender for 7 yard run to paydirt. CRLISADER NON-LEAGUE GAMES SEPTEMBER 11-TERRA LINDA With five of Riordans starters seeing their first varsity action in the season opener against Terra Linda at Kezar, the Crusaders fell to the Troians, l3-O. This marked the first time since l96l that Riordan was defeated by a public school. SEPTEMBER T8-TAMALPIAS The Crusaders tasted defeat once already this autumn and were-n't about to let it happen again when they met the Tamalpias Indians at Kezar and shut them out, I2-O. John Morello scored on a 40 yard punt return and a i2 yard end run while packing the pigskin l6 times for IO3 yards. SEPTEMBER 25-SANTA ROSA A 67 yard punt return by halfback John Morello and a great defense, which was the trademark of the Crusaders all year, led the Riordan's 7-O victory over the Santa Rosa Panthers. Drew, Kish, Gonsalves, Foster, and Morgan killed drive after drive in the 4th quarter to thwart any hope of the Panthers from scoring the equalizer. OCTOBER 2-BURLINGAME Riordan registered its third straight victory as well as shut-out at Kezar the following Friday with a l9-O win over the Burlingame Panthers. John Morello sprinted 4l yards for the first TD while Den DiRicco and John Vigna each added 6 pointers on runs of 85 and 7 yards respectively. OCTOBER 30-SANTA CRUZ Riordan enioyed its best offensive night of the season on October 30 as they whitewashed Santa Cruz, 47-O. Fireworks included DiRicco's l44yard TD scamper, John Wells' 75 yard punt return, Vigna's 45 yard aerial pitch to Morell. Drew, Gonsalves, and Kish wipe out Santa Cruz offensive threat

HIGHLIGHT LEAGUE GAMES OCTOBER 16-BELLARMINE Stepping onto the Kezar turf, the Riordan Crusaders were determined to beat the Bells in the CAL opener. The Crusader defense played tremendous football in the lst half. But after holding the Bells to a 3-O lead for a half, Phil Burton and John De La Forest eventually wore down the Riordan forward wall and led the Bells to a 24-O victory over a disappointed Riordon eleven. OCTOBER 24-SERRA The Crusaders could do no wrong the following Saturday as they shut-out Serra, i4-O. Riodran scored on two 2nd quarter TD runs of John Morello, overall, the Riordan offense racked up 293 net yards to a meager 5l for the Padres. Credit for killing any enemy threat went to All-CAL and All-City tackle Mike Kish along with All-CAL guard Dan Drew. NOVEMBER 6-ST. FRANCIS Riordan's lOth Annual Homecoming Game ended in a heartbreaking I5-7 setback for the Crusaders who played their weakest game of the season against the St. Francis Lancers. Riordan gave the Lancers points on costly mis- cues which led Wto a TD and safety. Senior half, John Morello scored the lone TD on a l yard plunge in the third quarter. NOVEMBER 'I4-ST. MARY'S The Crusaders ended the season on a successful note defeating St. Mary's by a score of 20-6. All-CAL John Morello opened the first quarter with a 62 yard runback and later cinched the game on a I5 yard scamper for his 2nd TD of the game. John Vigna flipped a 48 yard TD aerial to Kev Gonsalves for the 3rd six-pointer. Diilicco bursts through the middle for lO yards. Y Morello gets first down yardage and more in 20-6 victory over St. Mary's Linebacker Den DiRicco and defensive end Kev Gonsalves drop Padre ball carrier for loss. Junior Kev Gonsalves takes Vigna aerial and romps for I5 yard gain Senior fullback Larry Stromberg bulls 3 yards for a six pointer at Santa Cruz.
