Speech Left to right: Mr. Ferrara, M. Ahrcns, B. Carpeneti, D. Badaliacco, Bro. McCall S.M. The greatest victories of any competitive organization at Riordan this year have been Won by the Speech Club. Starting with early season Wins, the Crusader speakers kept up this trend through most of subsequent contests. With this impetus of early and middle season Wins behind them, they prepared for the biggest tournament of the year -- National Qualifications, held this year at San Francisco State College. No Riordan student had ever qualified for national finals before, but this year the tradition was broken. Mike Carroll, senior, and Ed Imwinkelried, junior, swept through eight rounds of debate to Win the right to re- present the Northern California District at Montana Cater this year. But the Riordan Speech Club did not only win in debate. In the other events, Riordan speakers came on to win places at State Finals in Santa Barbara. Dennis Badagliacco, Mike Carroll, Ed Imwinkelried, Mike Ahrens, and Bud Carpeneti all qualified for the April trip to Santa Barbara. This year's Speech Club had only one honor to gain to prove its superiority over its Northern California rivals, schools such as St. Ignatius, Bellarmine and Lowell - the l96l-62 season trophy for accumulated degrees of honor added during the year. That three foot trophy now rests in the Crusader trophy case. Freshmen Speech Members. Front row: T. Mahoney, M. McKay, M. McLough- lin, E. Martinez, R. Bianco. Back row: Mr. Licciardello, P.
