Oct. i8 RIORDAN l6-SERRA l2 This game was Riordan's annual homecoming game, and the Crusaders had never won a home- coming game, but this one was to be different. Barry Sullivan got the warriors from Riordan off on the right foot, when he blocked a kick which the Serra kicker was forced to fall on in the end zone for a safety. Bob Connelly was sick and unable to play, but Bill Baker took over and got the iob done in typical Riordan fashion .... Oct. 25 RIORDAN 2l-BELLARMINE 52 We really got off on the wrong foot in this one, as the Bells' All-American fullback Jim Jo- sephson ran the opening kickoff for a 94-yard TD. Later Josephson ran another one for 94 yds. The Crusaders were unable to overcome Baller- mine's powerful crew .... Nov. 8 RIORDAN 33-JEFFERSON 7 Riordan traveled to Daly City to face the great Paul Tapia, who had completed more passes than any other ball player in Northern California. We intercepted 7 of Tapia's passes and blocked two Jeff punts, pulling off the 3rd victory of the season .... Nov. l5 RIORDAN 7-BELLARMINE 25 Although we outgained the Bells statistically, we were unable to counteract the long gains of Sam Spooner and Jim Josephson. We gave them their toughest game, and could have won it with a few breaks. Nov. 22 RIORDAN O-SERRA I2 This last game of the season could even up the record, but Riordan was unable to get started and suffered the 5th loss of the season. Serra scored early in the first quarter and late in the game, but the Crusaders were unable to get on the score board. Crusaders and Padres watch with in- terest at the pre-game toss of the coin. Homecoming Queen, her majesty, Carol Gemmet For the third successive year, Immacu- late Conception Academy was the win- ner in our Football Homecoming Queen Contest. Carol Gemmet, student body president of l.C.A., was this year's winner. We like to think that it was because of Carol and her gracious court that our football team was triumphant over Serra in our annual homecoming game.
