Look out! Horan stalks for the kill. Baker takes the snap as Crusader gridders scramble for position. Moffett goes for a long one. Colderaro gets off a successful quick punt. Sept. 20 RIORDAN 6-FRANKLIN 6 A 33-yard pass from Bob Connelly to Tim Moffett with only seconds remaining set up Riordan's only touchdown of the game and their first of the season. Two plays later, Moffett plunged into the end zone for the touchdown. Ray Calderaro's conversion was good, but Riordan was penalized for having T2 men on the field. Thus, the Crusaders had to settle for a tie in their first encounter of the '57 season .... Sept. 28 RIORDAN O-ALBANY 32 This was the only varsity game of the year to be played on Riordan's own field. Due to a heavy rainstorm, Kezar was not playable and Riordan turned out the worse, as far as the Crusaders are concerned, as they suffered a humiliating 32-O loss to the Albany team that went on to an undefeated season. The only bright spot during this after- noon was the appearance of the sun in the late afternoon after two days of constant rains .... Oct. 4 RIORDAN 33-SANTA CRUZ 45 This was Riordan's first away game of the year, and the Crusaders were met with the task of trying to upset one of the top-ranked teams in Northern California in the pre-sea- son ratings. The Crusaders put up a gallant front in a hard fought effort to stop the hard- charging back of Larry Seimering. This game marked the advent of Bob Connelly as first string quarterback, and he celebrated the oc- casion by completing 3 touchdown passes, two of which were screen passes to Tim Mof- fett, for 67 and 85 yards respectively. Oct. ll RIORDAN 21-MCCLYMONDS 7 The Crusaders moved back to Kezar again, and celebrated the move with a rousing 2l-7 victory over a game McClymonds High of Oak- land. This game, considered by many to be Riordan's finest effort of the season, be- longed to the Crusaders all the way, as they jumped into an early lead which was en- dangered only once, in the middle of the third quarter. Again Tim Moffett rambles through the opposition.
