Due, perhaps, to the inexperience of the team, this coveted possession eluded Riordan's grasp. Although the team lost its first game to Albany, itcame back strong to beat Salinas, Sequoia, St. Elizabeth's, and Marin Catholic, the last two victories being C .A. L. contests. After the loss to St. Mary's, the Crusaders fought game- ly in holding mighty Valleio. ln the Valleio game, Dick Bass, Valleio's fabulous back, had the worst nightof his foot- ball career. ln the final two games Riordan lost to C.A.L. champion Serra, and to Bellarmine. f-:sf COACH VISCO GRGICH .lohn Flaherty, T Tom Lynch, E Norm Gumer,-ez G Ed Pryle, G Jim Caldera, Hb Gerry Maun, Hb Bob Marron, T I Tom NaU9hton Hb -lim Clifford, G 'lim D0'eYf C Bob Ahern' G George Cummings' M9 I :vga V fvx -3 3

1 .fl ililll l'l'Y This was the start of a new era under Coach Visco Grgich. Although the 4 win, 5 loss record was unimpressive, the team play- ed good ball and learned the true meaning of sportsmanship. All C.A.L. quarterback, Bob Harrington, was the captain of this year's edition of the Crusaders and was an able competitor. Riordan had an excellent bockfield with such an array of hardrun- ners as Vern Waligora, Ed Griffin, and Brad Bidleman, The de- fense was led by all C.A.L. center Rich Max, who had able sup- port from Don Ricci, Jim Flaharty, and Bob Marron. Next year's Riordan team will be blessed by the return of such able performers as Mike Cutone, Ray Cook, Jim Clifford, and George Horan.
