Annoyed by and raising it, in a blanket of the face of the in the Northern a favorite candy bar, sneaked into school by the class Going back to my easy chair, I sat wondering what The music still broke ln upon my splrlt with its charm they all? I used to correspond with some of them, but So long! Slowly the music died away and away and before my long and gradual I arose and ascended slowly stoppin the banging of a shutter against the house, I went to the window fastened the offending shutter to the casing The river valley was darkness below and small steel gray clous were hurried across man ln the moon by a noisy raising wind The Milky Way trailed out sky Milky Way? I couldn't help laughing to myself That had been of 1953 had happened to them all and mystery Where were I hadn't heard ln so long! eyes rose a stair case g now and then to be sure the steps were sound They seemed safe so I went on Gradually I became con- scious of s presence beside me Hardly daring to look aside, I felt that pre sence as belonging to another of the class of '5b I was happy for the company for this experience seemed a blt unusual The stairs soon began to descend and before long we were walking on an un known road Suddenly I was startled by a loud thud, friend lying motionless on the ground Going back I up and we noticed she had run into a sign that said, this point, Strange sights ahead ' Like any other normal person with the curiosity we came upon a huge gate and hearing weird noises we and looking back I saw my helped my old classmate 'Warnlng, Don't go beyond of a cat, we went on Soon looked up, and there we saw a cupldllke figure ringing a bell and saying, 'Welcome, welcome to this land of the mentally unbalanced ' We looked again, and we thought our eyes were deceiving but lt really was Mary Jo Tlndalll After a friendly 'hello', we went on our way leaving her there still ringing her bell In the distance we noticed some dust and ln no time here came 'Skipalong, Norman Nelsen' and his galloping grasshoppers About fifteen minutes later he was followed by 'Dragalong, Gary Meyer,' Norman's From a tiny box we saw Norman take out some pills grasshoppers In no time they became the size of one and were again on our way Down the road a way we came upon an odd, but of which was a big beautiful garden, and there ww flowers We noticed that she was planting them up slow, but sure assistant and he gave one to each of the horses so we each Jumped UPOD beautiful building on the side saw Janice Madsen planting side down, so we stood watchin for awhile, and soon along came Janette Madsen transplantlng the flowers right slde up This seemed fully as strange as some of the happenings in school Our eyes left the garden and we entered the blg building, where we found Gene Goetsch and Richard Matheson standing guard After chatting a few minutes we continued our way Next we entered a large room, and were greeted by Mavis Paulsen, famous typist of high school days At present she was employed by Dr Gene Ostedgaard and assistant, Harald Sorenson Mavis explained to us that Ostedgaard had invented some pills which when given to any person or animal would cause that person or animal to become much larger than usual I o ' 3 C O I C O I O , .. O , O - l us--- I Q I O O - 8 Q I I . . , Dr. ' S 0 L Mavis took us to a large laboratory where Gene and Harold were performing an exper4ment They were inventing some kind of liquid explosive vision, which when put in a person's eyes would cause the object seen to explode or drop dead This was especially useful in h1nt'ng No wonder the boys' always got their limit While Harold was explaining the process to us, Gene was putting some nto his eye Because of the tremendous strength of the new drug the celling dis appeared and suddenly a great gust of wind, causing an enormous suction carried us up 'nto the air and out of the bu'ld1ng We thought we were doomed for sure, but descending down from heaven was the, Angel of Mercy , Duane Moore, who gave each of ua a parachute which enabled us to reach the ground in safety We found ourselves in the wide open spaces with only a small ranch house in sight As we were walking toward the house we noticed a familiar figure working in the field There was Donald Heerdt slaving in the hot sun pitching hay Of course we wouldn't disturb him so we quietly walked past and joarneyed on down the raod All of a sudden we heard a strange no'se and there we saw a woman sitting half way up a flag oole with her black ha1r flying in the wind, hold ing a black and white striped kitty, and to too all things, she was singing at the too of her lungs, 'Come to me my melancholy baby, Come to me my dear ' Carol has always wanted to get up in this world, Kwho doesn't'D and we see that she has finally succeeded in doing so Walking on we spied a huge circus poster, telling about the ncatastropnie circus being held that day in a nearby town Craving some exciting recreation we hurried on As we entered the main gate we heard a familiar voice saying, 'Come one, you've seen Miss Cleo Goetsch She uses big bubbles, little bubbles, middle size bubbles It was David Jacobsen, the red headed, freckled faced boy from the old school days After we had seen the wonderful performance! we were hungry and seeing a cafe down the street, we strolled on down We were ver hungry after having traveled such a long way, so no ordered the cafe's spec'altv, Frog legs Our waitress was none other than Letha Sheely We remarked aboxt how good the frog legs were and Letha explained to us that they were so del4c1ous because a great surgeon, Dr Martha Peterson, raises these frogs During their growth she gives them a llquld substance, another of Dr Ostergaard's astounding drugs, which gives the meat such a delicious taste She specializes in tne correct way of cutting up these frogs, something she had learned in her old school days She then sends them to her brother, Maurice Peterson owner of the cafe Maurice, at the time was in the kitchen preparing More frog legs As long as we were in town we asked Letha 'f there was anything more that would be worth while to see She suggested gofng down the street to a large building where we wo1ld see a sight well worth our while We followed her advlce End whom should we see there but Leroy Hansen, Donald Jensen, and Paul Glasnapp hey were just boarding their rocket ship for a trip to Venus to see the beaut ful goddess They had made an earlier trip to Mars in a ship they had made This time they made it more streamlined and faster as they weren'g entirely satlsfiedsiththe first voyage They were just ready to take off, so we left them and went our way Soon a car with a loudspeaker drove by The voice sounded familiar, but we couldn't seem to place 1t 'Vote for Kenneth Petersen, next Presldent of the Un'ted States He ts dishonest, no taxes, no school, and will declare every day a holiday We were sure tlnt we knew the voice so we peeked into the car and there was Paul Jennings we were tired of walking so we hitched a r4de with Paul While riding along we came upon a quaint old school house, and there we got out , A 4 . , H - n n ' N N I a - I I9 come all, to see the beautlful bubble dancer. You haven't seen a good one until Ag we were nearing the door we heard some singing it wasn't oxr kind of s4ng4ng, ani we co1ldn't seem to figure it o1t So walking in to our amazement the teacher was Marlys B atrud She was just letting the kids olt for recess, so we sat down and had a chat with her We couldn't figure out the singing, so we asked her about it She said that strangely enough all the books were backwards, so they were sing'ng the'r song backwards Curiously we asked who the author was, and she replied, it was Bill Twait noted author and humorist We naturally understand then why everything was so screwy It was getting late so we had to be on our way Hearing the end of our Journey we came upon another gate which led u out of this land Above the gate was a fleecy pink cload upon whfch Jeanne Lund, of all people, was sitting She NIB speakin to an imaginary person, and in all sorts of languages Chinese, French German panisn and many others She always had such great 1nterest in foreign coxntrfes, and was practicing her languages for her future trip abroad We dfdn't wish to disturb her, so we left her there floating awav on the pink cloud As she disappeared from sight we In the distance there could be heard very dim music which gradually got loud er and louder as we walked on Suddenly the big bass drum gave forth a terrific boom, and I found myself setting once again in the b'g cgmfgrtable chair beside the television set I have a great sigh of relief and peace as I finally had learned what had happened to the class of '53, and now y6u know too Jf if ,,f could see that she was writing something ln a book.
