President 66 Compliments of BETA CLUB “Your loving, tender, smiling, sweetheart, good-looking girl, Maria Edith, is in first grade of elementary school at the San Agustin rural coeducational school; it takes her about an hour walk to get to school.” This was the beginning of our main project this year. Sponsoring a child through the Save The Children program nas been a worth- while and meaningful experience. It has been projects and services such as this, that has made our Beta Club so special. The Beta Club is comprised of sophomores, juniors and seniors who have maintained a high academic average. Along with this average, this year’s Beta members have been dependable, have shown con- cern. and have worked hard. Most of all, however, we have had a lot of fun. Our meetings and our projects have brought us closer as a club, and as friends. Our goal this year has been to provide a service every month. Our projects have reached from Maria Edith in South America to the children at Siskin's and Tri-County Hospital, to the teachers and students here at RHS. Our most ambitious project was compiling, producing and distributing a school directory. Although time-consuming, and often even a headache, the finished project was something of which we could be proud. 1 have been proud to be a part of the 1984-85 Beta Club. It has been an extreme honor to serve as president of such an outstanding group of students. Todd Callaway ... THE ART SCENE The Ringgold Art Scene is a part of the larger Art Scene group which is sponsored by the Hunter Museum of Art in Chattanooga. Art Scene is open to any high school students who are interested in the visual arts. For our first project we decided to do something special on Halloween. A Hallo- ween party for the children at the Siskin Foundation was the perfect project. The members of NHS dressed up in costumes of their own making and entertained the children. We found the experience very rewarding. Our next big protect was something for the school. Since tne national theme for NHS had to do with patriotism, we decided to buy a flag for the school We raised money by selling carnations for Valentine's Day. NHS is a super club. All out thanks to Miss Styles for her guidance and support. 74 Compliments of NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY .. . As we look at the news each day we see ac- counts of battles raging in various parts of the world and we sit back comfortably knowing that the horrors of war have not visited our land in over one hundred years. We see stories of starvation and the effects of drought on the lives of people and the economies of nations while we are snug in the knowledge that we have an over abundance of food and water. All of this did not happen by accident. Our liber- ty, freedom, and economic system has been pur- chased by the blood shed by our forefathers and our responsibility is to see that these freedoms re- main strong and secure for those who follow us. The only way this can be accomplished is for us to be prepared physically, mentally, and spiritually to face each problem one at a time with a strong faith in God. Good luck to you as you prepare yourself for those unknown tomorrows that lie ahead. Richard E. Knowing that this is my last annual is sad. 1 do. however, feel a great sense of accomplishment. I would not trade my experiences on the staff for anything. As a staff member and editor. 1 nave had the opportunity to work closely with some of tne finest teachers in the school. 1 will always remember and appreciate the work and friendship of Mr Larry Bunch. Miss Melinda McNish and Mrs. Dianne Anderson, who have guided us in the past four years. The lessons I have learned from these three, both as teachers and as friends, will remain with me forever I would like to thank the staff for their hard work and commitment. We have managed to have fun and be close friends. I will never forget our years together. I am expecting great things from them. I hope that Shadow '85. The Best of You and Me is as special for everyone as it is to me. I hope you will always strive for the best. I hope that you will always find it. Todd Callaway 'Zyy This year has been a wonderful year for me as co-editor of the Shadow '85. I am very proud to say that the annual was created and produced like clockwork this year. Though 85 has been successful due to much hard work, our annual staff has had a lot of fun. Our friendship and love for each other has not only brought us closer together, but has given us the ability to enjoy our work and strive to construct the best annual ever. To the students of Ringgold High School, the Annual Staff is a mere title for a group To the Annual Staff, it is a special group of people much like a family. We have produced an outstanding an- nual this year. I hope you enjoy the many memories captured inside. Memories which you and I made. I would like to extend special thanks to those who made the 1985 Shadow possible: members of the Annual Staff. Melinda McNish. Henry Pollitz. Jim lolley. Dianne Anderson. Linda Ed- dingfield and Mr. Larry Bunch; for their most appreciated help and assistance. Thanks to everyone and 1 hope you will be as proud ol this book as I am! In Memory Jeff Farrow Tony Gillespie In winter we can smell the fragrance Of springtime's finest flowers. And in the heat of summertime. We relive snowy hours. The old man can sit and smile As he recalls his childhood days. Those times of simple carefree fun His memory oft replays. And so it is with memory. Holding fast, as time slips by. To all the things that we hold so dear. Making us laugh or cry. And,when we can no longer see The smile of a loving face, Memory brings it back again. These things time cannot erase.
