This is truly a Cinderella story of a team with great desire, which started the season with no returning starters and no proven scoring threat. The Braves concentrated on a tight man-for-man, sagging defense that forced the opposition to shoot from outside and a deliberate screening attack that accounted for well-balanced scoring among the five starters--Stan Conly, Rex Preuett, Clovis Boyer, Jim A I-luckaby, and Bubba Leshe. These five boys did a 1ion's share of the playing, but, when the injury jinx hit, Mickey Blake, Bobby Fowler, Tommy Jones, George Rowell, Ronnie Radzikowski, Tommy Smith, Billy Ray, Percy Morrow, and Jerry Upshaw filled the gap most adequately. The 'Skins hit a mid-season slump after their Christmas trip to Jasper, Alabama, Charlotte and Gastonia, North Carolina, and Harlan, Kentuckyg but rebounded strong late in January to win 16 of their last 17 games, the last 13 in a row. The Redmen took the District 2-B title with a convincing 61-48 win over Castor, and won a squeaker from Logansport, 50-47, in Bi- District. In the Regionals, they blasted a good Epps team 61-48, then stayed red-hot to win the Sectionals at Grayson by defeating the towering home team 63-58. The semi-finals found Ringgold hosting Walker, the outstanding team of South Louisiana. The Braves proved poor hosts by taking a 66-48 victory. The state finals were played in Simsboro's small, over-crowded gym. Spectators literally hung from the rafters and sat in the playing area. The Redskins won a hard-fought, well- earned victory over the scrapping Tigers, 47-42, to wear the crown of Louisiana's 1957 Class B State Champs. L 'v '-if-in., V 73,2 X V 11-'svfif W W I .M U Q .
