Although the team gained only one victory, in which they defeated Chartiers Houston, they displayed strength and tal- ent in each meet. ln '78 several school records were set by members of the team. Sue Cogar and Shirley Gillock both set a javelin record of 101' 6 . Also, Sharon Lar- kin lshot-putterl and jill Gibson lsprinterl scored the most points ever for the Ring- gold team. oach Frederick inspects the starting form of these Ringgold runners.

Track Team , mfkitfg, ' lim Phillips and Pat Williams warm up in the gym before going out to the track. lim Fitch, Pennsylvania state shotput champ. Ringgold's boys track team had a fairly good sea- son in 1978. The Rams captured either first or sec- ond place in all of their dual-meets and tri-meets. lim Bavuso thigh jumpl and lim Fitch tshotputl each captured firsts in their event at the Tri-State Meet, where the Rams came in ninth place out of 51 teams. In the W.P.l.A.L. Qualifiers, lim Bavuso and lim Fitch clinched firsts for the Rams, Keith Kles came in second in the discus, and Tim Boyd took fourth in the two mile run. Once again Fitch and Bavuso placed well for the team, in the W.P.l.A.L. Finals. lim Fitch claimed a first place in the shotput and lim Bavuso a third in the high jump. Both competed in the P.I.A.A. state competi- tion and lim Fitch became the state champ in the shotput. lim Fitch, who is truly an outstanding ath- lete, participated in the 1978 lr. Olympics over the summer. He placed eighth in the overall shot com- petition with a throw of 5' 6Vz . With the talent of lim and several other track veterans, Ringgold is sure to be victory bound. M

Coach Ron Tumidajski's team defeated all of their opponents through their teamwork and consistent scoring. Besides their team efforts, a few of Ringgold's golfers captured individ- ual honors. Dave Prystash, Scott Spragg and Dave Pollock qualified for the VVPIAL Area Tournament in Sept. of 78. lacki Barna com- peted at the Champion Lakes Golf Course in the qualifier for the Pennsylvania State Girls Championship.
