HISTORY OF RCHS The Ringgold Colored High School was organized and established in 1938, as the result of the need for high school in Ringgold, Louisiana, and to better edu cate and serve the boys and girls of the ad joiruirmg communities A site of six acres of land was given by the O G Thomas familv and this being located one mile south of Ringgold on the Coushatta highway Through the cooperation of the citizens arld the Bienville Parish School Board under the leadership of school building was erected In October, 1938, pupils who had completed tlue seventh grade in any of the fourteen near by rxural elementary schools could enroll in the eighth grade at the St Luke Elementary School There were fbrqr nine pupils This was done with advanced knowledge that the high school building would be completed and ready for use by the end d' the first semester At the beginning of the session, three teachers and a principal were employed to teach the eighth grade On January l, 1939, the new staff and forty nine eighth grade students moved into the new building QCon't on next pagel a Superintendent J. fH1story Con't .Y Thus, the Ringgold Tolored ligh School, moved along at a rapid rate, adding the ninth, tenth, and e le venth grades as the student completed tke grade below ILater grades one through seven were added, and the school op erated in this manner under the eight four plan Under the clever guidance of Superintendent Shelby, the Blenville Parish School Board and others, several.new buildings have been added and well equipped Plans a re now being studied for constructing a gymnasium which will be a step forward in improving the physical plant Over a period of five years, fourteen rural elemen tary schools have been discontinued and seven schcoo l busses put on to make convenient transportation for all of the boys and girls attending Ringgold Colored.TIigh School The total enrollment of grades one t YI'O u gh lO5 The teaching staff has incr ased to twenty f5.ve who are drawin equal salaries according to qualifica tions and years of teaching exp lence The s tucients take pride in saying that we hare one o the firme st free lunch proframs in the south seventh as of May 1949, 757 and ninth through eleventh,
