Jr. Conservation Club 4 yrs Senior Play Q 2 E Q n 3 Senior Class History Entering into the autumn of 1949 as an insignificant group of Freshmen, we have slowly but steadily advanced to the greatly envied rank of Seniors. Looking back, we find that fifteen Seniors: Sue Allen, Henrietta Berry, Marcella Brangers, Joe Brangers, Jimmie Coffman, Chris- tine Cox, Louie Dink, Aubin Mattingly, G. W. Mobley, Billy Raine, James Shanks, Billie Smith, Donald Wise, Tommy Wiseman and Phyllis Woodring, have completed all twelve years at Rineyville, a record of which we are proud. During our Freshman year, Mr. Basil Crad- dock was our sponsor. He was ably assisted by Mr. Perkins, Miss Patterson, Mr. McCubbins, Mr. Hundley, and Bro. Earl Potts, who were all very helpfull in giving us a strong push onto a successful high school career. Johnnie Gray was elected as our class president that year. One of our activities of the year was the sponsoring of a dunking machine at the Fall Festival, of which we used the returns quite capably by taking a trip at the end of the year to Frankfort and Lexington, Kentucky, with Mr. Perkins, our principal, accompaning us on the trip. After returning from this trip, we all looked forward with anxiety toward our Sophomore year. In the early part of our Sophomore year, we missed the presence of three teachers who had left us, but soon became accustomed to Mr. and Mrs. Henley Taylor, Mrs. Adams and Mr. Viers. Mr. Taylor and Mr. Hundley were our sponsors, and after the election of class officers, Louie Dink became president and G. W. Mobley, vice-president. We were all proud that one of our boys, Donald Wise, played basketball on the first team, with three others, Jimmie Coff- man, Wendell Smith and Louie Dink, doing their part on the second team. With the money we had accumulated through class dues and a few activities, we all enioyed a week-end stay at Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Cincinnati Zoo was the main item of interest to us on this trip. Then, vacation time again, and the realization that we had completed one-half of our high school education. First, when we came back to school as Juniors, we were sorry to see our old gymnasium being torn down and moved to a different location, but watched with hope the construction of a new school building and gymnasium begin. After we had elected Dickie Belt as president, we settled down to work in the hopes that we could raise enough money for a trip at the end of the year. Five of our boys, Donald Wise, Otis Coates, Wendell Smith, Jimmie Coffman, and Louie Dink, made the basketball first team. One of our main activities was an old fashioned round and square dance held in the old gym, which helped us considerably. ln the midst of our planning for a Junior trip, the Senior class invited us to go to New York and Washington with them. We accepted this invitation gladly, and all of us enioyed the week long trip very much, but were somewhat disheartened with the realization that we would be deprived of a Senior trip. Still, with the company of Mr. and Mrs. Perkins, Miss Patterson, and Mrs. Adams, our Junior sponsor, we all had a good time, and will always remember viewing the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, places of interest in Washington D. C., and many others. When we journeyed back to Rineyville for our final year, roll call revealed that we had thirty eight Seniors, the largest Senior class to attend Rineyville. Our greatest thrill was the fact that we would be the first Senior class to have access to the new school building, and the use of a spacious auditorium. Again we provided the first five on the basketball team, and began with a very successful season. In looking back, we find that Sue Allen has been a cheer-leader for six years, Betty Powell three, Billie Smith two, and Henrietta Berry and Wanda Hart one each. Our class elected Dickie Belt and Martha Stewart for class king and queen, and Dickie was elected school king. After the class elected Louie Dink as president, Dickie Belt as vice- president, Billie Smith as secretary, and Mary Phillips as treasurer, we started work on one of our activities, that of building a school annual. At the end of the year we plan to present a Senior play, and also have our greatest accom- plishment, that of graduating. As we come to the close of our administra- tion, we have nothing but thanks and gratitude for the teachers and parents who have helped us along the way, especially Mr. Perkins and Miss Patterson. In closing, our class motto will speak for itself: ENTER TO LEARN, DEPART TO SERVE. 5 E 5 3 Class Will To the Juniors, the Seniors will their paper wad sharp-shooting marksmanship and the ability to talk the principal out of expelling them when they get caught.
